Surprise Proposal Shoot

New Years always seems to be full of surprises. That being said, I absolutely love this surprise proposal shoot by Sharon Bushman and had to share.  This may look like an engagement shoot but in fact, Emily did not know photos were being taken when Matt proposed to her in beautiful Central Park.  He popped the question after a nice, long walk. These photos truly tell their proposal story.  My favorite picture has to be the one of Matt giving a thumbs up to the camera. Classic.

May your New Year be filled with good surprises! And congrats Matt and Emily on your engagement. Kudos to you Sharon for capturing such a beautiful and unforgettable moment without being noticed by Emily! That is true talent.  Happy New Year!

Sleepless In Seattle

This proposal is for all your helpless romantic girlfriends that love to cuddle up to Sleepless In Seattle. I won’t deny it, I love Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan’s endearing relationship too!  If she digs love stories then she’ll love this romantic proposal as much as we do!

Josh’s girlfriend loved the movie Sleepless in Seattle. The couple had never visited New York City together but always had it on their to do list. The night before he proposed he rented Sleepless in Seattle for them to watch. She had no idea that the movie foreshadowed the night about to come…

They ate a nice dinner near the Empire State building so that he could take her to the top of the building after they finished. When she came out of the elevator a yellow look-a-like backpack with the teddy bear (from the movie) was waiting against the wall. She saw the backpack and noticed it had her name attached. Her soon to be fiancé told her she better open it.

He filled the inside of the backpack with a few of her favorite things (Reese’s cups, photobook of her favorite moments, the “Sleepless in Seattle” soundtrack, etc.). The best surprise was when she pulled out the teddy bear the engagement ring was tied to its paw. That’s when he “popped the question.” To top it off, some of their friends and family were waiting around the corner to congratulate them and continue the fun at their engagement party.

How it worked smoothly: He had a trusted buddy place the backpack right before they exited the elevator to a keep close eye on the ring. He also asked his friend to hide around the corner and take photos when he proposed. I would concure that it must have been a flawless and memorable night!

Does It Have To Be A Ring?

After reading and hearing various proposal stories, this one took me by surprise. John and Lizzie’s proposal is adorable yes, but what made this proposal a total surprise was what John proposed with! I got the story from Lizzie’s perspective.  Thank you Lizzie for sharing!

“I (Lizzie) finally open the gift wrapped box and it’s a watch! So, I’m really confused by then. I look at him and he says,  “Merry Christmas! WILL YOU MARRY ME?” and I’m totally speechless.

Here’s some history behind the watch instead of a ring.  I’ve never owned a fancy watch. I just use my phone. No big deal. Well John has always said that a watch is a woman’s most beautiful and functional piece of jewelery and just couldn’t believe that I had never had one before! So, it is only suiting that he propose with an engagement watch. It is BEAUTIFUL. It is a 18k gold and stainless steel Cartier “Tank Francaise” watch with blue steel hands and a sapphire on the crown.”

After listening to their story, I was challenged to consider another possibility to illustrate engagements. Does it have to be an ring or can it be an engagement watch with a wedding band to follow?  I love the tradition of the ring, but it would definitely be a total surprise to receive a gorgeous watch, and in Lizzie’s case, a meaningful story behind the watch too!

Horse Drawn Carriage

This proposal shouts Christmas fairytale!  Most big cities, San Francisco, Denver, New York, and Dallas to name a few, have horse drawn carriage rides come December.  If you’re gal is a Christmas fanatic then going with a “Christmasy” proposal like this one is a smart move. Remember, we are big on personalizing the proposal so the carriage ride may be the main ingredient but you should add a few more. Brad did just that for his girlfriend…

He made a reservation for a horse drawn carriage ride to take them to a Christmas light show through town.  He packed a mini ipod/speakers, blankets and a thermos of hot coco to have on their ride.

As they rode by beautiful homes decked out in Christmas decorations, their song “randomly” came on in front of his proposal destination. When they arrived, the Christmas lights started blinking and coordinating with the song playing from the house. Take a look at this amazing Lake Country Christmas light show and the perfect proposal spot in Forth Worth, Texas. You’ll get the picture!

If she is gutsy like Brad’s girlfriend, you can ask her to dance with you outside, in front of the Christmas lights and carriage!  Let the Christmas inspired proposals begin…
