Celebrities + Fans + Real Life Proposal

Good morning! My dad sent me this proposal yesterday (thanks dad!) and thought I would share it with you. I like that this gentleman was thinking outside the box when he asked Tim Tebow and ESPN760.com to assist him in his marriage proposal; however, I think if you plan to use a celebrity (which in some cases could be very cool for your gal) it needs to be done in an overly thoughtful way to keep it personal. Check out the proposal video below.

First, I want to say how cool it was of Tim Tebow to participate in a marriage proposal.  When I watched the proposal, I feared this guy was such a big fan of Tim Tebow so HE wanted to propose to his girlfriend using this pro-athlete and the idea just stopped at that. No personal touches, no details, making the proposal more about Tebow than his fiancée. I guess I am wondering if it’s what SHE would have dreamed up for her perfect proposal scenario. Maybe it was. I just believe adding a few more details, like her favorite flowers and or giving a proposal speech rather than just popping the question, would make it more personal.  This way she would have more time to let the moment sink in.  Again, I applaud this guy’s creativity. I just want to encourage gentlemen to not only consider or get stuck at the big picture when proposing because many times it’s all the details that make a proposal story go from cute to incredible! Just some food for thought.

See you tomorrow for Kendall’s “We Say Yes Wednesdays.”

Young Love Sparked, and Renewed

I’m craving for summer to arrive, so today I’m sharing Ben and Maria’s summertime engagement. This couple totally reminds me of Harry and Sally (from When Harry Met Sally). Their love first sparked in college, and after dating others, years later they reconnected and found love with one another again. Ben wanted to pop the question on their anniversary, which happen to be the glorious 4th of July. We used the word “sparked” as an inspiration for his proposal. It shared double meaning as their love sparked on 4th of July, which of course is a day literally full of fireworks and sparklers.

Ben left a note on his door “Come inside” for Maria.  Inside, on the entry table was a small basket waiting with a framed picture of Ben and Maria from college, 4th of July sparklers, and a note that explained how their love “sparked” in college.

In search of Ben, she stumbled upon a rose petal and candle lit path that led her to his backyard. There he was waiting in the middle of amazing decor, that he and his daughter put together. Bouquets of flowers and candles scattered everywhere; as if on cue, sparklers went off all around the backyard, as he yelled “happy anniversary!” when she walked outside. There was a table set for two with a personalized champagne bottle, flutes, her favorite cupcakes adorned with sparkler candles. You know the one’s that are impossible to blow out?

He invited her to sit down, poured her a glass of wine and left the bottle in front of her to read “Maria, I love you. Will you marry me? ~Ben. I think you all know the rest…a happily ever after!

Proposal “Do’s” and “Don’ts”

Handspropose

Happy Friday! We have witnessed and heard the real do’s and don’ts of proposing. We are hoping to increase the number of creative, thoughtful, and well-planned proposals. Today’s a good day to take notes!

The Do’s

Timeless Traditions ~ Is it important to your girlfriend that you ask her father or someone in her family for their blessing? If so, even if you believe it’s an old tradition, take the time to call her family or take them out to dinner before you pop the question. This way you avoid any hurt and surprised family members.

Public or Private ~ Who should be present at your marriage proposal? Just the two of you, her family and best friends, or perhaps a cheering crowd? REALLY think this one through. Just because you are a sports fanatic does not mean her idea of a proposal is on the jumbotron. However, If she is a die hard fan, paints her face, and never misses a single game then go for it!

We have discovered most women prefer a proposal to take place in a private or semi-private manner. Some women prefer to have family and friends involved. Holidays are fun and personable atmospheres to create your proposal. However, remember you will be competing with the holidays. There is always the option of an intimate setting for the two of you, followed by a surprise gathering of family and friends.

Location ~ This is a key element to setting the mood. This is where you can incorporate favorite memories together. This goes to show just how well you paid attention. However, do not get so caught up in location that it stops you from tuning into your creativity. Start with “how” you’re going to propose rather than “where” you’re popping the question and the possibilities will increase ten fold.

Attention to Details ~ Incorporating specific moments and details in your engagement proposal that she wouldn’t expect you to remember will leave her in awe. This is your chance to prove to her that you know her better than anyone else. Remember you want to make the proposal about her by incorporating her interests and what she enjoys doing most with you. DO NOT NEGLECT the little details; they are the icing on the cake, which happens to be the best part of the cake!

The Don’ts

Throw out unoriginal clichés ~ To be blunt, automatically rule out proposals via jumbotrons, fortune cookies, and over a “nice” dinner. With a little thought and planning, you can go beyond cliché ideas. If you get stuck, consult her girlfriends/sister/mom or brainstorm ideas with Simply U Proposal consultants to keep it on the DL.

Her Wants vs. Yours ~ Don’t be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone just a little. It’s important to think about what your sweetheart would want. Many times we hear of proposals where the guy does what he thinks is cool rather than what SHE would appreciate. Think about past memories, her favorite things, her personality type, her love language, and you’ll start to cater the proposal to her desires.

I hope these Do’s and Dont’s can be helpful guidelines to your proposal planning. Please feel free to share your own proposal planning tips that worked for you!

Ciao Bella!

If you have ever been to Italy, you know that Italians are exceptional at expressing love.  Although, Bryan and Quinn are born and raised New Yorkers, their Italian ancestry runs down to their core.  Bryan felt it was important to include Quinn’s family and close friends so we used their help to give Quinn her perfect “Yes!” proposal. Bryan happens to be quite the character so it was only appropriate to incorporate his “Italian Stallion” t-shirt that he was wearing the night these two met. He shared from that night on, it became a consistent joke in their relationship.

Bryan treated Quinn to her favorite Italian restaurant in NYC which happened to be where they had their first date too.  After dinner they headed over to Central Park for a nice walk, nothing out of the ordinary. Pre-planned, her family and best friends were all waiting by the Bethesda Fountain for Bryan and Quinn’s arrival.  A few of her friends held up a sign that said, “Trevi Fountain”. Quinn liked to mention that the Bethesda Fountain is the Trevi Fountain of Central Park and because they couldn’t quite afford a trip to Rome, he brought a little bit of Italy to Quinn.  The rest of her friends and family were standing around the fountain holding flowers and an Italian flag.

When the couple arrived Italian music started playing, and from behind Quinn, walked up an Italian string quartet. Simultaneously,  her mom walked up and handed her a gift box.  It was a t-shirt embroidered with “Mrs. Italian Stallion To Be.” That is when Bryan took off his jacket and revealed he was wearing his infamous “Italian Stallion” t-shirt! After the revealing, Bryan asked her to be his wife in front of her cheering family and friends! He also handed her a coin, as a promise to take her to the actual Trevi Fountain on their honeymoon! She saved it just for that occasion.

Sometimes we have to work with our resources and budget, but a little thought and planning can turn a fountain in NYC into a magical thing. Let’s get creative!
