A New Years Marriage Proposal

Silver balloons and draping lights cover the room from ceiling to floor. Friends gather for a New Years party which will soon turn into Rachel and Josh’s very own engagement party, once the clock strikes twelve and she says “yes!” Imagine as they watch the Times Square ball drop on TV, they have their own sparkly New Years ball drop at the party. Then just when it hits midnight, Josh opens the ball and his future fiancee’s ring is inside! All their friends and family scream and it simultaneously becomes a surprise engagement party. Friends shuffle in photos of the couple from the past year and a cake that says “The perfect start to a new year!” New Years definitely became her favorite holiday last year. Perhaps it will become your girlfriends favorite this year?

If you plan on popping the question this New Years, put some creative thought into how you’ll present the ring. It’s getting down to the wire, but that doesn’t mean you can’t propose with style. When we found out Josh and Rachel LOVED watching the ball drop more than most people (they never missed it) that’s when we, The Yes Girls, realized the perfect way for him to propose and keep that surprise factor.

If your planning a New Years and/or engagement bash above is a little inspiration to start 2011 with a bang!

Photos from Martha Stewart Weddings and there are plenty more from the gorgeous shoot. Happy New Years!

We Say “Yes” Wednesdays

New Years is just around the corner and before we know it wedding season will be here! This week’s We Say “Yes” Wednesday is all about bonding (Thanks to my cousin Bridget for such a great topic)! As you prepare for your wedding or a friend’s wedding these are a few of our favorite bridal party bonding activities you can do with your bridesmaids. It’s the first time all your close friends from various stages in your life are together so why not plan a fun girly activity.

1. Girls Game Night~ It’s always fun to kick back and play games with your best friends. For some relaxed bonding time, play games to break the ice such as Table Topic: Girls Night Out card game, make up your own Minute To Win It, or a personalized trivia game about the bride.

2. Girly Day Excursions: Plan a day of wine tasting or get your nails/toes done. Perhaps everyone could go for facials at the spa.

3. Get Physical~ There are so many fun excercise classes that definitely break the ice. Try a pole dancing exercise class or some zumba. If you live by a great hiking trail take them on your favorite hike and then top off the evening by roasting smores over a bonfire.

4. Crafty Time~ Most bridesmaids are more than willing to help you out with wedding plans. If you have a DIY project, and your bridesmaids will be in town, plan a wine, fondue, and Save The Dates making party. It’s probably best to keep the wine and stationary separate but it’s nice to have something sweet for your friends while they help you put together your dreamy Save The Dates.

Put Her In The Perfect Proposal Attire (Attn: Guys)

Ever considered what to wear to your marriage proposal? If you’re a lady in waiting, it may have crossed your mind, but I’ll take my chances in saying most guys have not. Gentlemen, of course it’s important to put thought into your proposal attire, but it’s just as crucial to put your future fiancee in the appropriate outfit.

The Proposal Dress Code for Him: If a friend or family member is bringing your girlfriend to the surprise proposal destination then you can be dressed to the nines! She won’t get suspicious if she isn’t seeing you prior. If you are spending the day together, clearly showing up in a suit and tie could give it away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t wear her favorite shirt of yours. The point is to dress like yourself but throw on your Sunday best; she will melt at the very sight of you! For the ultimate “studley” move, do some quiet snooping. Find out what she plans on wearing so you can coordinate your outfit with hers. Concerned you’ll risk the surprise? Coordinate your shirt, jacket, tie, etc. with the main color used in your proposal setting (ie: If you’re decorating with red flowers or tablecloth, wear a red tie).

The Proposal Dress Code for Her: You believe your girlfriend always looks beautiful (and obviously she does), but for her sake, she WILL want to look and feel pretty when you pop the question. If you plan on taking photos (which is a must nowadays) she’ll be so thankful she wasn’t sweating and grungy in all the pics. Find some kind of excuse to dress up. This doesn’t have to be a cocktail dress, but don’t put her in a time crunch where she’s throwing on a “blah” outfit.

Here’s the kicker. When it comes to her attire, come prepared for her. You know the exact plans. She doesn’t. Clearly you don’t want your gal freezing or refusing to go on that “walk” outside if she is jacket-less and only has high heels. Come prepared! If you’re on the beach, have an extra pair of sandals for her. If you’re in cold weather take the initiative and bring a spare jacket. Even if she didn’t bring one herself because it clashed with her outfit, she’ll be grateful for the option later.

Good luck finding your perfect proposal attire!

Monday “Rocks”!

Good morning!! I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and survived the weekend! For today, I found another great jewelry store and absolutely fell in love with the designs. Harold Stevens Jewelers takes the initiative to custom create each piece of jewelry and delivers such exquisite rings. Hopefully you will enjoy them as much as I did!

This particular piece was designed by Danhov, another place to find gorgeous jewelry. This classic style engagement ring entails a round center stone encompassed by smaller diamonds, as well as side stones on the double band in a channel setting. It is available in 18K white gold, platinum or palladium. I love this ring, definitely one of my favorites in this collection.

Designed by Christopher Designs, this vintage inspired engagement ring is full of intricate detail. Shown here with a crisscut emerald cut diamond (you can choose any center stone of your choice) and completely covered in diamonds. If you love diamonds, and agree with “more the merrier”, than this is the ring for you. The center stone is surrounded by a halo influence and pave setting diamonds on the bands. Available in 18K white gold. This ring screams fabulous!

Another ring designed by Danhov, and the only reason I choose this particular one was because I thought it was quite interesting and different. This “football looking” center stone is actually called a marquire shaped center stone and is surrounded by smaller diamonds. This engagement ring is available in 18K white gold, platinum or palladium. If you are looking for something more untraditional or unique, than this should be a contender.

This is one of Harold Steven’s Designs, and too be honest it’s quite exceptional, I’m not even sure where to begin. This ring is spectacular and stands alone against the others. The center stone is a pear shaped diamond and is enveloped in many tiny diamonds. The center stone is set in a very particular setting and is crafted in platinum with an 18K rose gold removable center diamond band. This ring is very animated and endearing… love it!

Hope you liked my ring picks for this week! Good luck in your recovery after the holidays and Happy New Year everyone! See you next week!
