Denver Marriage Proposal on Hotel Balcony: Jenna + Nick

What can I say, marriage proposal “summer” season is back in full throttle and I am soaking up every bit of it. Let’s be honest, when we get an adorable and sweet couple like Nick and Jenna it makes our job 100 times more enjoyable and fun! Nick, crazy in love with his lady, wanted to do something personal and intimate for his future bride. Both in school to become doctors, it was a much needed vacation! Nick wanted to avoid the public eye so it was JUST the two of them while keeping it a complete surprise! In fact it felt very special ops; we did most of the coordinating with Nick via his amazing mom, Georgia! Jenna was the one who made their hotel reservations at the fabulous Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Denver, so Nick decided it was the perfect place…but with a “slight” upgrade involved. The Yes Girls got to planning the details.

When Nick and Jenna arrived, she had no idea that one their room was changed to the presidential suite but when she walked inside she found a breathtaking view, not only because the balcony overlooked downtown Denver BUT he had a gorgeous, intimate proposal created all for her. A white rose monogram, white roses bouquets (her fav) and three suitcases that represented pieces of travel, memories, and dreams he promises to help her fulfill. Each suitcase adorned with a custom luggage tag. Starbucks is their favorite date spot (and their first date location) so Starbucks “city” mugs from special locations- Phoenix (where they met), California (where they’ll marry), and Denver (where he asked!) were inside each suitcase. Other items included doctor scrubs and red bulls for Phoenix, kids book and Italian cookbook for California and “C” monogram for her future last name and picture frame indicating [Insert Engagement Photo Here]. Every last time was well thought out.

She said “yes!” but the fun surprises didn’t end there! Laura Gravelle, our talented Denver photographer, arrived to take engagement photos of the two love birds at the proposal site and the iconic 16th Street. To top off the night, they left in a horse carriage to an authentic Italian dinner with a sign hanging on the back…”Just Engaged!” Nick’s marriage put a whole new spin on proposing in a hotel room!

Looking for Love Online – Buyer Beware

When you ask a friend about where she met her new guy and she says, “through an Online Dating site,” are you surprised? Or are you comfortable with the fact that online matchmaking is the new pickup scene for singles?

Either way, more and more people are meeting online and developing lasting relationships.

Some actually result in marriage and we’re talking marriages last beyond the weekend!

We get everything online now, so why not a date? One advantage the local bar has over online matching is that you can actually see each other. In the online world, you can literally re-create your identity to be anything that you want to be.

Caution:

It is important to be aware of the downside of online dating. You can bet that many people in the online dating scene exaggerate their looks or accomplishments. Anyone who has done online dating can tell you about their experiences where the photo did not look anything like the person they met.

Whether the photo had 30 pounds electronically edited off their thighs or turned a beer belly into six pack abs, the reality looks nothing like the promise in the photo. This is where you gracefully bow out and tell your online dating service that potential match is closed! If someone isn’t truthful about themselves before you ever meet them, how can you possibly expect them to have good character and integrity in a relationship?

Have you ever heard the stories of a guy who says he works with the executive team in a high powered financial trading company? That makes his potential matches think he is a stock broker or an executive? He hopes that is what people think. The fact is, he does work with the executive team – he delivers their mail. He is the mail clerk and does coffee runs for the executive team meetings. So he is not exactly lying, but he sure is trying to portray a different scenario than the truth, however.

The Positive:

Let’s face it though, it is hard to find a like minded match these days without trying online dating services. While you do hear the horror stories, there are also plenty of great stories where people truly meet their soul mate. So why not give it a try? As long as you are cautious and realistic, you can actually meet someone wonderful. If you are sincere about meeting a date online, then put your real self out there, too. Don’t do what you hate from other people and make yourself out to be something that you aren’t.

Post a current photo, preferably one that shows the real you. Forget the glamour girl shots with wispy feather boas and teased hair. If you are a tee shirt and jean jacket kind of girl, then put that photo on your profile.

List your occupation honestly, but do not give too much information (where they might be able to track you down). You can say that you are in an entry level banking job without saying you’re a morning teller at Maple Street Branch of XYZ Bank.

Be honest about your preferences. If you only want to date guys from your same cultural, ethnic, religious or philosophical background, then say so. Why waste their time (and yours) by not adding all of the qualifiers that are important to you?

It is better to get a few select responses from guys that you would consider dating than an email box full of answers from guys who aren’t really your type. At the end of the day, you want to meet someone to have some fun with and hope it goes towards a good relationship. Be smart, trust but verify…and you just might find that diamond in the rough!

Wednesday for Woman

I thought I would give a fun date idea woman you can do with your man. Most guys will know how to use a nail gun or glue. Why not spend an afternoon creating a craft project together? Make it a team effort so you can each contribute something. I am in the process of making flowers boxes for a bridal shower. These are great for house decor or on a patio. Here is a tutorial on how to do it. Try it out and spend some time together!

Friday “Rocks”!

It’s FRIDAY, and not just that, but the Friday before a 3-day weekend!! Woo-hoo! :) I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial weekend! Today is a little different… thanks to my wonderful wedding photographer, Rich Lander with CHARD Photo, my engagement ring along with my husband’s wedding ring was featured With This Ring yesterday. Thanks Rich!

It’s hard to read, but the bottom caption reads; “The funny part about this wedding was that the bridesmaids actually forgot the groom’s ring back at the house where they were getting ready! So when they realized this during the actual ceremony, the bride gave him her wedding band and she kept on her engagement ring. We all had a great laugh!”

~ Rich Lander, Photographer

Yes, my bridesmaids did forgot Chris’ wedding ring, however, it was very funny and we now have a great story to tell! He got his ring in the end…
