Engagement Photo Props

Make your engagement photos as unique as your relationship! Show your fun and quirky side with props to give an added unique flair.

    1. Umbrella. Shield the glaring sun, or stay dry amidst showers, an umbrella is a cute and classic prop for engagement pictures. It causes you to snuggle in close, and can be used for up close headshot type shots if it is extremely sunny outside to create a less harsh tone.
    2. Blanket/blanket scarf. This one is pretty popular, but make it your own! Use a t-shirt quilt of all of the races the two of you ran together, snuggle up in a blanket your mom crocheted for you when you left for college, etc. Props create an instant love story conversation piece.

    1. Personalized drink ware. Engaved champagne flutes, Mr. and Mrs. coffee mugs, Starbucks coffee with a “fiancee” name written on the side, you get the idea. This creates an instant close up shot of your  left hand with that gorgeous sparkler. It creates a natural pose, and gives a lifestyle portrait vibe that can make you feel relaxed.
    2. Animals. Do you and your significant other share a pet? You can’t forget your furry friend when taking photos. Seize the opportunity to take a family photo with your pet. This doesn’t just have to apply to pets. Horses in a field, birds flying in a flock around you, butterflies in a garden, and many others are also great ways to incorporate animals to create a one of a kind photo.

    1. Food/drink. You love chocolate truffles and he loves craft beer. Make a picnic out of it, displaying and styling it beautifully for a relaxed and cozy lifestyle portrait session. Feed each other for a romantic and intimate shot. You can’t get much more personal than indulging in your favorite food and drink.
    2. Transportation. Some of the best engagement photos are the ones taken between sites. Take photos on the metro, subway, in a taxi cab, on a bicycle, on a motorcycle, in your favorite car. This usually appeases to your man, so let him have fun with this!

Engagement Ring Insurance

engagement ring in green ring box You’ve gone through a lot of work to find the perfect ring, you’ve worked many hours to pay for it, and you want to do everything in your power to keep it safe. Whether you are traveling abroad, nearby, or are just like to be safe rather than sorry, engagement ring insurance is probably something you’ve thought of. In fact, it is a good idea for everybody.

Most home owner’s insurance plans cover personal items, like rings. However this is just to a certain amount of money. Most people buy an extension that covers specific personal items, like engagement and wedding rings. The average cost of this is $1-2 for every $100 that would be spent to replace your ring. Getting insurance is a smart idea, and also shows that you take your marriage seriously and will do anything to protect it as rings are a very symbolic and sentimental aspect. To make sure this is the case, be sure to get your ring professionally appraised to get your ring on file. This way if it is lost, stolen, or broken it will be covered and you won’t have to sweat. A lot of times an engagement ring will be listed under the brides parents’ insurance, so be sure to get this transitioned once you are legally married!

Wedding Planning Perils and How To Avoid Them

Unfortunately, planning your wedding day full of love and excitement can bring on just the opposite: fights and frustrations. Here are a list of common quarrels and how to avoid them or get through them.

    1. Money. Weddings are expensive. There is no getting around that fact. Whether it is the catering price tag, photographer, or honeymoon, sticker shock can cause a lot of fights especially when tensions and stress are running high. Try to stay level headed and record costs in a budget to stay within your own budget range. Make sacrifices, after all, marriage is all about compromise and making sacrifices for each other. Figure out what is most important to you as a couple on your big day.
    2. Guest list (kids vs. no kids). The guest list is a touchy subject, especially for events where you are merging two families. Family styles might be extremely different. One side might be a younger crowd, while the other might be older with a lot of young children. Whether it is the debate on inviting kids vs. no kids (which is a huge conversation in itself) or if you are deciding on inviting a bigger mix of family than friends, think rationally. Who will you look back on and not even remember seeing at your celebration? Who encouraged and loved both of you as a couple leading up to your wedding?

  1. Attire. Wedding attire is a huge piece of the wedding. This is where the bride and groom get to express their own style in a very visual way. Most brides want to be able to have a say in what their groom will wear, especially if him and his guys want to sport neon patterned socks and sunglasses during the ceremony. Keep an open mind and listen to each others opinions.
  2. Registry. Do we really need a sno-cone maker darling? White towels or grey towels? What brand of dishes did you grow up with in comparison to his family’s? If you do your registry in a day or two, you may get overwhelmed with so many decisions and having another opinion making a lot of decisions with you. Like earlier, make sure to compromise and not get caught up in who is “right” or “wrong.”
  3. Honeymoon. Relax on the beach drinking pina coladas or ski down a mountain in Colorado? The two of you may have extremely different ideas of what is relaxing and what is an energy crusher. Pick a spot where both of you can unwind together while creating memories you both can look back on for the rest of your lives.
