A Life Size Snow Globe Proposal

Rick and Steph are such a sweet couple. Just listening to him describe her was so endearing. When he told us her favorite gift he’s given her was a snow globe that said “I Love You” inside, the perfect idea just clicked. They planned a weekend away to visit friends so he took that opportunity to propose.

When Steph was busy out shopping with her girlfriends, Rick was blowing up a life-size, inflatable Christmas snow globe; the ones you see on your neighbors front lawns. He cut out the Christmas figures inside the snow globe so he could get inside. Yes, that is right, he was a human snow globe. Rick squeeze inside the globe and his buddy taped the incision right before Steph returned.

When she walked into the room, she stepped into a winter wonderland. It was filled with hundreds of white balloons and candles all centered around Rick, in the snow globe. There he was, on one knee, dressed to the nines, ring in hand, and holding a sign, “I Love You, Will You Marry Me?”

Awww…I just love it. The most important part was that Steph loved it. She immediately burst into happy tears.  Rick had his friend hide to capture some photos and of course, quickly undo the tape so Rick could put the beautiful ring on his fiancee’s finger! The rest of the evening was celebrating with their beloved friends. What a proposal!

A Warm Cup of Joe

Talk about using a daily habit to your advantage; this proposal is not only original but adorably romantic. As a Starbucks lover myself, I was totally into turning her morning routine into something romantic. You can never go wrong starting off your day with a cup of joe!

Lindsay, John’s now fiancée, went by Starbucks every morning before work. She loved her coffee and never went to work without her cup in hand. Lucky for John, he was able to convince Lindsay’s boss to give her the day off. Lindsay however had no idea; she went to Starbucks as usual in the morning.

starbucks_cup starbuckscup copy final

When she picked up her coffee at the bar she saw something different written on her cup. John had given the barista a label to put on her cup (where the “inspirational quote” is located). It simply said, “Lindsay, you are the love of my life. Will you be my wife? Love, John.” John came around the corner with a dozen yellow tulips (her fav) and proposed in front of the Starbucks crowd! She had the best coffee of her life, a day off work and spent the rest of the day with her new fiancé.

Hopefully this encourages you to look at your future fiancées little habits and turn that thing she loves into unforgettable!

A Decade of Diamonds

It is amazing in just ten years how much engagement rings have changed! The millenium showcased rings with a simple classic design. They were stunning, and recalled the “less is more” concept.  In 2010, however, I think it is all about the bling, with groupings of diamonds often encircling a center stunner. Even though diamonds are timeless no matter what the shape or size;  princess, cushion and emerald cuts have become top contenders. Pave, halo and split band style rings add to their popularity. Watch for more colored diamond center stones a la Carrie Underwood’s yellow, show-stopping gem.

Classic Solitaire

Even though 2010 rings have more detail to them, the classic solitaire will never fade.  Whether it be 2000 or 2010, the best part of an engagement ring is the meaning behind it. I think the focus should never be solely on the ring. Yes, a diamond is amazing, but it is a symbol; your marriage is your life! Here is to making rings and marriages in 2010 the best yet!

Proposal Family Traditions

Recently, one of my family friends popped the question. Every year, our families celebrate Christmas together and this year he shared his oh- so- recent proposal. The part that stood out to me the most was that he bought TWO rings; what girl wouldn’t love two rings?  This immediately caught my attention, and I made him tell the whole story! Tanner and his mom explained the tradition they have in their family: you propose with a proposal ring selected by the groom and then the couple chooses the “official” engagement ring together! Debra, his mom, shared with me that her husband, Peter,  had done the same thing and it is something that her family passes on. She still has her proposal ring, which is a band of Peter’s birthstone gem…sapphire.  Tanner chose to buy a proposal ring with a pink tourmaline gem because that is his fiance Margot’s favorite color. Ahhhhh…sweet!

Tanner scheduled a romantic date with Margot, unaware that it was leading to something bigger! Throughout dinner, Tanner complained that his ankle was really hurting.  After dinner, they strolled down to a cute little boat for a ride in the Newport Beach Back Bay, Tanner complaining the entire way about his ankle. Tucked under his sock was a ring box in hiding. As he got down on one knee to rub his ankle and he pulled out the Margot’s ring instead!

This is such an amazing tradition that Tanner and Margot can pass onto their family. Now we know that most men cannot afford two rings but the sweetness was keeping a family tradition.  Men, we encourage you to always ask her family if there are any traditions that they want to pass on. Whether it be a ring, diamond, or a proposal tradition, it is always better to be in the know!

Pretend Photo Shoot On The Water

We had so much fun planning this proposal in Carlsbad, CA.  Kyle wanted to propose to his gal, Melissa, on the water since that’s where these two love birds met.  They met wake boarding back home in Alabama and have spent numerous days on the water since.  Here’s how it all went down…

Kyle and Melissa were visiting friends in CA for the weekend, so we scheduled a private boat ride on this awesome Calabria (wake boarding boat) at Carlsbad Lagoon. Josh, the boat driver, took the couple out for a spin while Troy Grover, the photographer who took these amazing photos, jumped on board to capture the proposal.  You may be wondering how Kyle pulled this off without her knowing. And trust us, she had NO IDEA!

Well, Troy politely asked if he could ride along to take some promo photos of the new boat for California Water Sports website. After 20 minutes of cruising on the lake, he even asked them to “model” for a few photos.  Melissa happily agreed.  To keep it a true surprise, we asked Troy to position Kyle and Melissa in different poses for the promo shots.   After a few pictures, he directed Kyle to get down on one knee and hold Melissa’s left hand…aka the proposal pose.  It took her a few seconds to realize what was actually going on.  There in front of her was Kyle holding her gorgeous solitary diamond ring!

To complete their perfect day, Kyle treated his fiancée to a luxurious limo ride to a fabulous dinner at the Chart House, which is right on the beach. Pure bliss. When it comes to Southern Ca, we have many preferred vendors since that’s where all the Yes Girls are originally from.  Congrats again Kyle and Melissa and a blessed marriage to you both!

A Storybook Proposal

This proposal is as dreamy as they come.  When we found out that Stephanie, Ryan’s now fiancée, was gung-ho about Disney fairy tales and had super feminine taste, we knew the perfect proposal location for Ryan. When I say feminine, I’m talking ALL things pink and girly she loves.  Ryan was so sweet when we discussed his proposal; he was so worried that he didn’t have enough money to give Stephanie the proposal she deserved.  No worries there. This proposal was budget-friendly and unbelievable.

Before Ryan and Stephanie left for their trip to Dallas, he suggested they watch her favorite movie Beauty and The Beast. The movie was fresh in her mind when he took her to the gorgeous Dallas Arboretum Gardens that weekend. He even packed them a picnic lunch so they could make an afternoon of it. As they strolled through the gardens he found a beautiful spot where they could eat lunch and of course, get engaged.  In the middle of pure prettiness, he handed her a fairy tale storybook. This was not just any storybook; it was the love story of Ryan and Stephanie. He found an old Disney book and changed the story line to describe memories from the beginning of their relationship up to their time in Dallas.  Every memory he wrote about corresponded with the illustrations in the book.  Reading the book together, she turned to the last page and it was a picture of the magical red rose in the glass case from Beauty and The Beast.

That was when Ryan pulled out of the picnic bag and handed to Stephanie her own glass case with a red rose inside.  When she took a closer look, she found her engagement ring attached to the rose! All their beautiful memories together had added up to make that moment a fairy tale for them both.

Downtown Denver Engagement Shoot Cont.

We promised more photos and here they are.  Early last week Kendall shared how this fine gentlemen proposed to his fiancée with his Little Black Book.  This book was not what you would expect; it was a documentary of their love story from the first time they met to the moment he decided he wanted to marry her.  So romantic!

Hiring a photographer for your proposal really hits two birds with one stone. 1. you capture your proposal and 2. you now have fabulous engagement photos. The best part is you only pay for one session too.

Now that you know their story, you will fall in love with these beautiful photos even more. We sure did.

Hello gorgeous ring!  A kiss and an engagement ring shot makes for a perfect photo.

Part II: Ways To Spruce Up a Proposal

If you weren’t able to join us yesterday, we are continuing from yesterday’s blog. With that, I will dive right in with more ways to spruce up your proposal…

6. Friends and/or Family Input:  So I’m not just talking about asking her dad for her hand in marriage.  The help of friends and family in this process is special and important.  First of all, they love to be included.  It honors them as important people in your relationship.  She’ll love it when you say, “I checked with your friends to make sure your ring was right,” or “I asked your mom about your favorite flowers.”  Anyway that you can involve them in either advice or execution on the day will be so special to her.  Also, it’ll give you that extra boost of confidence, that she will be swept away by this most romantic moment.  (More ideas for their involvement: have them hide to take pictures, help pass out roses to be given out, coordinate getting her from A to B unknowingly, plan a party for right after the engagement, sprinkle the rose petals before you guys arrive at location, light candles, and so much more)

7. Food, Drink, or Sweets:  We use food to celebrate almost everything…so why not integrate it into your romantic proposal? I love the idea of enjoying the proposal longer than it takes to ask and say yes. Don’t just let it happen and leave.  Let it linger and enjoy some food (and each other) before you start making calls and announcing the news. Bring some of your favorite wine to enjoy after she says “Yes!”  Or pack a picnic to enjoy while you laugh and soak in the commitment you’ve decide to make to each other.  Or my personal favorite, some dessert!  Grab her favorite dessert to share.  There’s nothing sweeter than that!

8. Thoughtful words: If there is one tip in here you take….take this one!!  Often a guy will put so much time into planning and the ring and ends up just blurting it out, “Will you marry me?” However, what she wants more than anything is for you to explain your heart to her.  So most importantly, prepare thoughtful words you want to share.  Think through how much she really means to you.  Why you want to marry her?  Why you love her?  How beautiful she is to you. Explain what it means to spend the rest of your life with her.  I highly recommend that you write down what you want to say.  Take your time, write it all, and don’t worry about being lengthy.  Now you probably won’t remember it all, nor should you memorize it like a script, but use these written words as your guide and say as much of it as you can before you ask the big question.  Take your time as you explain your beautiful heart because she will treasure this moment forever.  The best part about this is once you’ve proposed you can give her these written words to hang onto.  She’ll see those parts you may have left off and treasure this document that she can always use to remind her of your love.

9. The Ring:  Need I say much more?  It’s the centerpiece of your proposal.  What she’ll wear forever and what every person will ask to see!  Be thoughtful here.  Ask her what she likes.  Ask her friends.  Put it in a pretty box and get ready for her to squeal with delight when she sees it!

If you take the time to use these proposal spruce-ers, your proposal cannot be anything less than amazing and thoughtful.  If you know someone getting ready to propose then please share these tips with them too. Good luck!

Ways to Spruce Up a Proposal (or any other romantic moment)

Most guys have at least a small idea of how they would like to propose.  Often they have really good ideas, but almost every idea can go from “good” to “wow” if only you insert some proposal “spruce-ers” (made up word I know, but you get the point).  Here’s the top 9 things you might want to consider adding to your proposal to help take her breath away.

1. Candles: Votives are inexpensive, and in bulk, these little babies can be really high impact.  You can buy 100 for only around $20 at stores like Michaels, Target, or Ikea.  Anytime I see a multitude of votives in a darker place, my inner romantic just does a little dance inside.  Awww…breathtaking.

MonicaChandler

2. Flowers:  Figure out her favorite flowers and integrate them.  Flowers beautify ANY space.  Buy a dozen or 12 dozen and trust me it will make a difference.  She’ll love that you got her favorite flower.  She’ll get to admire them for a week or two after and get giddy every time she sees them.  She’ll take pictures of them with her beautiful ring beside them and….well… need I go on?  Girls LOVE flowers!  We can never get too much of them and we will LOVE them even more when they’re a part of a once in a lifetime moment.

0000059074_20090728101417

3. Music:  Tell me a moment that wasn’t better with music?  Consider making a playlist on your ipod, bringing speakers, and playing the songs that remind you of your relationship.  Music creates memorable moments.  Music could create an opportunity for a spontaneous slow dance to usher in your engagement or at the very least, it’ll be a mix that will forever remind you guys of the night you both decided to commit your lives to one another.

4. Camera: This is a moment she’s been dreaming about.  A stud like you is going to get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.  Of course she wants photos of this moment.  She takes pictures when you guys grab ice cream…trust me she’ll want to capture this moment.  Usually girls are the picture takers but because this is a surprise she may not be prepared, nor is she gonna shuffle through her purse while you’re confessing your love just so she can snap a few.  Therefore, coordinate this for her.  She will be so thankful.  Have a friend hide out and take photos or hire a photographer.  I mean hey, you put all this work into proposing lets document that well!  ***Extra credit here….a video camera!  You will knock her socks off.

Heather's Ring

5. Proper Dress:  Now I know this sounds a little weird but it’s important.  Sometimes in the effort to surprise, this gets left out.  If you want to take a stroll by the water after dinner, you want to make sure she has a jacket.  If you’re going to surprise her with friends and family after you propose, you want to make sure she likes how she looks.  If pictures will be taken, she’ll want to feel pretty so just think about this.  It’s easy to plan this, and important to remember.  I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard that a couple got in a fight because he wanted to go “look at the stars” or “stroll on the beach” (aka propose) and she said, “I’m freezing.  Why are you forcing this?”  With a simple, “hey do you have a jacket in case it gets cold?” will help you avoid all of this.

We’ll take a little breather now. Tomorrow we will have more more proposal day spruc-ers for you. Until then…

Love,

Yes-Girls-Signature_2

Facebook and Google Are Going to the Chapel

Yes, you read that right; Facebook and Google are going to get hitched! Have you ever wanted to visit Maldives? After seeing these photos you will. Dave (Manager at Facebook) proposed to his love, Brittany (Manager at Google), during a private plane ride. She looked out the windows and saw…

fbgoogle1

The best part is seeing a woman’s “surprised” reaction.  Brittany looks completely giddy in this photo.

fbgoogle2 fbgoogle3 fbgoogle4 fbgoogle5 fbgoogle7

Maldives looks incredible and I’m sure it’s even more breathtaking in person. I love how he used coconuts to spell out the proposal. A perfect touch and excellent attention to detail Dave!

As you know I just love inspiring proposals, and coincidentally, we recently helped a gentleman plan a similar proposal idea when he proposed on a helicopter ride over Catalina Island.  “Will You Marry Me?” was written on the shore (with volleyballs) as they flew over Avalon.  They met playing beach volleyball; therefore, the volleyballs were a perfect tie in.  Talk about a great view.

Congrats to both couples and what fun proposal stories you have to share with your little kiddos one day! To see more photos you can also visit the lovely Green Wedding Shoes.  More proposals to come…
