Tomorrow is Kyle and my wedding anniversary so I started to look back at our wedding photos. I’ve seen them a million times but there is something about reviewing them each year around our anniversary. Can I just say, there are SO many wedding trends that have changed since I said “I do” (wedding gown styles, bridesmaids dresses, we now have wedding blogs not just The Knot for ideas, bow ties for grooms, etc) but then again there are some traditions that remain constant.
However, today I wanted to touch upon wedding anniversaries not just weddings. I love traditions.
The traditional 5th Wedding Anniversary gift is wood.
Seems a little random that wood is a traditional gift but there are definitely simple, creative ways to incorporate this gift. Plan a romantic outdoor picnic in the park/woods to celebrate the strength of your relationship. Hang photos and words that represent your first five years of marriage together from a tree and set up your picnic beneath. Take one of your favorite wedding photos and have it printed onto wood instead of canvas. Put away the phones and bring along a deck of cards to just enjoy one another.
I’m still in shock it’s already been 5 years! Then again when I think of all the adventures and some hard times (3 moves, 3 deployments, countless Air Force Missions, going full time with The Yes Girls, 2 dogs, new friends, vacation to Africa, 20+ friends weddings, and many more) I realize we’ve made a handful of memories the last five years! Thank you to Kyle and to those that have been a part of our journey so far!
