We’re starting a series that offers real life advice from brides (and from some of the married Yes Girls) who have been there. We don’t want to give you the same old advice you’ll read in any wedding mag, we want to hear things that brides did really well during their wedding planning and maybe one thing they’d do differently. There’s already so much out there about timelines and how to choose vendors (and you don’t need to worry about that because that’s what you have The Yes Girls for), and we figure it’s the more candid advice that brides-to-be appreciate most!
Well then, let me start, John and I got married on July 14, 2012 in Templeton, CA (which is right in the Paso Robles wine region). The pic above is us being all in love and stuff.
And now that you feel like you kind of know us, here’s my two cents:
Recommendation:
Before the wedding I bought a new perfume and saved it to wear on our big day. Now when I choose to give myself of spritz of that wedding perfume, I’m instantly transported to that amazing day and flooded with the most wonderful memories. (Bonus olfactory points: buy some perfume on your honeymoon, on a bad day you’ll spray and remember the high of newly wedded bliss.)
Regret:
My biggest regret is the photographer I chose, he is no longer in business, but I sincerely wish I wouldn’t have paid him the entire balance before the wedding. It’s been two years and I still don’t have my wedding album. I gave him all the money up front and I should have saved our last payment until after everything we agreed to was given to me.
