We Say “Yes” Wednesdays

i_love_yes

The girls and I talked and we decided we wanted to start doing a weekly blog post with things we say “yes” to, and hope you do too! It could be anything from a new gadget, romantic gift idea, inspiring stories, intriguing websites/vendors and anything we all say “yes” to that you should buy and/or be a apart of! This week, and lately I have been overwhelmed by the needs in America and around the world. So many people are suffering and going through such hard times.  I decided to share ways we can all give back when it comes to planning a wedding or being a wedding planner!

1. While getting lost in twitter world I found this website Wish Upon A Wedding Founder Liz Guthrie created this organization in January 2010. It helps couples who one and or both of them are struggling with a terminal illness. Wedding professionals can sign up in a chapter according to your area to offer their services to a couples in need. If you are interested in starting a chapter please email Liz at cwo@wishuponawedding.org. Thank you Liz for creating an idea that we can all easily give to!

2. My roommate is one of those people that has creativity written on her forehead. Check out her blog! She had the girls in our bible study and me all send her our “passion” or “gifts” we think we have in our life. She said she was working on a secret project. She finally let me in on the secret yesterday. She sent us an email to go to Barter Quest, an online website where you sign up and donate your services for someone elses. You create a list with your services and write what value they are worth, then you can swap with someone of the same value! I am down to swap! Anyone else?!

3. My last thing we all say yes to, is a company called Just Hearts This non-profit organization buys and sells jewelry and pottery that is made my woman in Uganda, Nicaragua and Thailand who either were once sold into sex slavery or are trying to provide for their family. All purchases go back to keeping these woman’s jobs secure. We all agree why not buy these for your bridesmaids or for wedding favors! Let’s gift and give back!

Hope you enjoyed. Thanks to Melissa Disston Photography for these beautiful photos of the jewelry. See you all next week!

Proposal Photo Shoot: Lauren + Paul

We shared Lauren and Paul’s engagement story yesterday and these photos make it all come to life. You can just feel the love between these two and the sun couldn’t be brighter that day! Simply beautiful. Note the “little blue box” in the black and white photo. I just love that!

Want to see more? Visit Julie Hanna Photography.  Gentlemen, it is definitely worth capturing the proposal on camera. Even if you can’t afford a professional photographer, ask a friend to hide in the bushes. Of course, the upside to a professional is that they look like beautiful pieces of artwork!

Video Delight: Lauren + Paul

It’s official. We are reaching that age when friends are getting engaged and married.  Lauren, a friend we graduated with from Mission Viejo High School, recently got engaged to her fiancé, Paul. She was kind enough to share her engagement video and photos. This is becoming a huge trend and we LOVE it. Who wouldn’t want a timeless moment recorded forever? Major props to Paul and we are so excited for you Lauren. Of course, we can not forget to mention their lovely photographer, Julie Hanna, and videographer, Thomas O’Hara of Aqua Vivus Productions who hid in bushes to capture this beautiful moment. That’s pure talent. We will post their proposal photos tomorrow and they are total eye candy.

Here is Lauren’s version of the story. “It was our three year dating anniversary on Sunday, February 7, 2010. We attended the 9am service at church and then headed off to take a drive along the coast. Most weekends, we drive up and down the beaches of San Diego and walk around at our leisure, so this was not out of the ordinary. We stopped in Mission beach and took a walk, then got back in the car and proceeded to Windansea beach in La Jolla. Once we arrived, we walked along the rocks as we reflected on how far we’ve come over the last three years. Our topic of conversation granted him the perfect opportunity to tell me how much he loves me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. He got down on one knee, presented a Tiffany diamond ring, and asked me to marry him. I was so overwhelmed with joy and love that I could not stop the tears from coming! Although it might seem cliché to propose on the beach, it really is so fitting for us. Paul is an avid surfer and we are both lovers of all things ocean—we’ve spent countless hours together on the beach, and I honestly could not picture our engagement anywhere else.”

Lauren also shared how Paul purchased a bottle of wine in Australia in the beginning of their relationship and saved it just for that particular night! How incredible is that? It’s our delight to share this heart warming video of Paul and Lauren’s engagement. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did! Congrats again you two. Keep the video and photo trend going all you soon-to-be engaged love birds!

Anchors Away

Catie is a bit of a romantic; you could say Will is not, so I thoroughly enjoyed watching Will step outside his comfort zone for Catie. He wanted his marriage proposal to be nothing less than a true love story.  He did it all for her. I am still impressed…

Will took Catie on a boat ride off the shores of Cornado Island for their “anniversary.”  Catie walked onto the small boat to find a beautiful dinner set up for two, including some of her favorite things: a Mexican themed menu, daisies, Pinot Gris, mini chocolate desserts, “their” songs playing on the speakers, etc.

170-05454 message-in-a-bottle-1 boat-at-anchor-in-ensenada

Will and Catie spent the evening enjoying their private, delicious dinner in the middle of the ocean.  Seriously, all they needed was some dolphins flipping around and it would be Disney movie perfect. The sun was setting so it was time to draw in the anchor and head back to shore.  While Will packed up the food, he kindly asked Catie if she would bring in the anchor.  When see drew it in, she was surprised and confused to find a message in a rustic bottle attached to the anchor.

“Will, there is a bottle attached. What is a bottle doing on our anchor?” Will told her to look inside and see whom it was from.  That is when she realized the message was a hand written love letter to her. When she finished reading the letter, Will was already on his knee holding out her gorgeous engagement ring!

If Will could be a romantic for a day, so can you guys! Thank you Will and Catie for allowing us to be apart of your special day.  Have so much fun planning the wedding!

Most Loved Valentine’s Day Flowers

We are all about adding thoughtful pizzaz to your Valentine’s Day gift, but a beautiful bouquet of flowers is always a nice touch to your V-Day celebration. To be greeted with a handful of blooming flowers always makes my day (not that it happens all the time).  To help the fellas out this year, we asked a variety of females to name their favorite flower. We are not knocking traditional red roses but why not personally pick out a different, gorgeous bouquet this year? One you specifically put together just for her.

pink-peonies white roses calla lily - yellow FU86_330x370 FF74_c IMG_1816_2 redtulips Blue-Hydrangeas-In-Blue-Vase-GTL0107-de

In no particular order:

1. Blush Pink Peonies

2. Pure White Roses

3. Calla Lilies (any color)

4. Sunflowers

5. White Daisies

6. Red Tulips

7. Blue/Purple Hydrangeas

These are just a few choices but it’s best if you stop by the florist and create a bouquet that is totally her.  She will be so impressed!

Dreaming Up Simply U Events

To my surprise, I get quite a few emails asking how I started Simply U Events and Love, The Yes Girls so I thought today was the perfect day to go backstage, and share how it all happened. A few weeks ago, I interviewed with Stephanie May, author of PBS’s Fiscally Fit. She may be young but she has quite a knack for writing and well…being fiscally fit. She asked me everything from how I started Simply U during this economy, what motivated me, the biggest struggle/success, future goals, etc.

I shared my very honest (maybe too honest) answers with her at Fiscally Fit and it’s all there for you to read.  My hope is that it inspires those of you considering branching out on your own.  No matter where you may be in life, it is refreshing to actually love your job and I love help with marriage proposal ideas. I am truly thankful for my fellow Yes Girls/friends who I get to work with on a daily basis and continue to believe in an optimistic future for Simply U. There is much more for me to learn and plenty of room for growth so the future may have it’s challenges, but I’m hopeful.

A Noah and Allie Love

This proposal is inspired by one of the most romantic love stories ever brought to theaters, The Notebook. This is Lisa’s ultimate favorite movie. We also found out she LOVES sunflowers, horseback riding and having her family involved in the proposal was a must.  You could say Anthony is her Noah.

Lisa and Anthony spent a weekend vacationing at her family’s ranch. One morning, Lisa woke up to a note and a sunflower from Anthony on her nightstand. Like the movie, the note instructed her to “follow the arrows for her surprise.” He used white tape to create arrows to direct her path. She ran downstairs to find her mom holding the next sunflower. Her mom proceeded to tell Lisa why she loves her and Anthony together then directed Lisa to continue following the arrows, which essentially led her to all her family members, each explaining why the two of them were so amazing together and reasons why Anthony loved her.

In order to reach her surprise she rode off on horseback to find Anthony waiting for her, at her favorite spot on the ranch. He was standing in a field of sunflowers, but it was one he created. When Lisa rode up, sunflowers were upright in the field spelling “Marry Me?” Anthony had stuck pipe cleaners in each stem and secured them in the ground.  She jumped off the horse and received her big surprise, a fiancé! They’re definitely each others Noah and Allie. He knew her so well, he even had a celebration brunch back at the house with all her family.  Now that’s a true love story.
