Mason jars are all the rage these days for every type of decor (events, wedding, and home) and as I get closer to FINALLY getting a home office I love testing out (and obnoxiously pinning) ideas! I think I have officially decided on a soft pastel colored theme with soft teal and blush.. but I’m sure I will change my mind a couple of times before August! Anyway, I found this DIY on how to color tint mason jars and I just had to try it!
Mod Podge
Regular Size Mason Jars
Food Coloring
Fork / Wisk
Step 1: Pour about 3 tablespoons of Mod Podge into the Mason Jar, add food coloring until you get the specific shade you want. I was going for salmon and mint green colors so I added 2 drops of pink into one jar and one drop of each green and blue into the other.
Step 2: Mix the color and Mod Podge together until completely blended.
Step 3: Once the mixture is fully blended twirl the mason jar around until the whole inside is covered with the color you want. This is a tedious process, so be patient!
Step 4: flip the jar upside down on a pile of newspapers or old paper bags and let all the excess coloring drip out for about 10 minutes. While this is happening you should start to pre-heat your oven to WARM (if your oven doesn’t have a WARM setting then just turn it on as low as possible).
Step 5: Transfer the jars from the paper bag onto a wax paper covered cookies sheet and carefully place in the oven.
Step 6: Bake for about 15 – 20 minutes upside down and then flip right side up for another hour (or until the coloring is completely clear).
Step 7: Carefully remove the jars from the oven and let cool for about 15 minutes! Then VOILA
My only complaint about the process is that the colors didn’t turn out like I had hoped… they are much more Christmas-like than springy… but I will just redo the process and use more Mod Podge, less food coloring!
