Ahh the Cinderella story… the one everyone loves in March when the brackets go up and the madness begins. Well let me tell you, I chose to attend Saint Mary’s College of California knowing full well that they are always March Madness’ “Cinderella Team”. When we made it to the Sweet Sixteen in my sophomore year I thought my dreams had come true. My dad and I immediately rushed down to Houston only to get our hearts trampled on by those ruthless Baylor Bears.

But last Wednesday I saw a game that I will never forget. With the Gaels trailing 20-4 at one point my lovely friend, Matthew Dellavedova (whom you might recognize from the Australian Olympic Team this past summer), made us all remember why we love our little school of 3,500 students. With 2 seconds left in the game BYU took the tied score of 67-67 to 67-69 and all hope seemed lost as the Cougar crowd cheered for a victory. But then, in a desperate shot at the buzzer, Delly (as he is called on campus) throws the ball in the general direction of the basket only to miraculously make the 3 point shot. Gaels win 70-69. Done.

I tear up every time I watch this video… ahh the joys of college sports. For the love of the game…
