I’m sure many of you watched ABC’s Mobbed which kicked off their season with a flash mob and drama filled marriage proposal. Here’s the thing, parts of the proposal were creative and personal (aka the dancing and incorporating her family and friends), BUT this is a huge BUT, the show proved exactly why a female’s perspective is key to creating the right proposal.

The show’s host, Howie, suggests that the gentlemen popping the question create this drama-fest before getting down on one knee. Good idea? Nope, terrible! Starting a proposal with unnecessary tears is a no go. Period. The only intuitive staff member that recognized starting the proposal with introducing a (fake) ex-girlfriend was a bad call was the only female involved with the planning, and she was the choreographer! Guys, please note that you may think it’s funny or clever to throw your girlfriend a fast one before you propose but honestly, it just distracts her from enjoying the good details you have coming. Simply put, don’t do it!
Personally, it’s not my style but I recognize the boyfriend was making a big gesture with the wedding; however again it took a turn for the worst. Instead of the producers cutting to a commercial so the bride could touch up, they had random girls slipping it over her clothes. Seriously? That is the one day you definitely want to feel and look your best, and no girl wants to walk down the aisle with a unfitted dress over her clothes. I cannot forget to mention the ceremony. Why would they have the family standing, clumped off to the side? At least set it up like an actual wedding with a beautiful alter and chairs for the family to sit front row.
Sorry if this seems a tad bit harsh. We believe in well-thought-out proposals. For the record, the couple was adorable.
Love,
