Thursday night I went to a “YoPro” (Young Professionals) cocktail hour in Dallas and was chatting with some people when I was introduced to a guy named Turner Dawson. Obviously he asked me what I do to make small talk and when I shared my job with him his first reaction was to look at all the other guys at the table and exclaim, “Dude, do you know what she does?” I have to admit, I love my job and love when people realize how cool it is! Some of the guys expressed that they weren’t sure if they would be comfortable hiring a planner for the special moment and Turner said, “Well let me tell you why I wish I had known about something like this…” So here it is, the story of Turner’s proposal:

Turner and Kelley met while attending Texas A&M University at a football game at Kyle Field. He knew when he wanted to propose that Kyle Field was the perfect place to do it and began the process… after first contacting a representative of Aggie Athletics he was told to who call and set up a meeting. The employee explained that in order to do propose on the field he had to pay a $300 fee just to get a key to the stadium and in order to turn on the lights it would be an additional $800. He ended up choosing Option A and deciding to light lots of candles on the field so that when Kelley walked in she would just see him in romantic candle-light.
Turner arranged for their families to be in the press box watching the big moment from afar and then they could come down and celebrate on the field with them after he popped the question. When the sunset they all filed into Kyle Field and Turner began lighting the candles… the one thing he didn’t think about was the wind. As he would light one candle, the one before would blow out. He lit the candles so many times that the lighter ended up running out of fluid! So when he finally abandoned the idea of lighting candles he looked up and there is a police officer driving onto the field. Apparently there was a wedding going on in a different section of the stadium and a child had “escaped” from the reception to roam around Kyle Field alone. Turner approached the officer and explained that he was about to pop the question and although it was so dark you couldn’t see 5 feet in front of you, he would really like it to be an intimate moment… alone… without a policeman in the stadium…
Anyway, everything went fine once she walked in and she of course said yes after taking in the amazing moment. But Turner explained to the group on Thursday, “it would have been nice to have a planner think through all those details. They could have realized that lighting candles in a notoriously windy stadium wasn’t going to work… and that a wedding reception could interrupt our private moment”.
So Gentlemen, I know you don’t all sit around thinking through every last detail of any sort of event, so take the stress out of it and just let us help you! A special thank you goes out to Mr & Mrs Dawson who are happily married now and delighted to share their proposal story despite the bumps along the way.
