When men plan on popping the question, we’ve found many are hestitant to tell friends and family when they’re proposing to prevent any accidental slippage and ruining of the surprise. This is a valid concern; therefore, how can you go about including her family and friends (if that’s what your girlfriend would want) without the surprise becoming well… not a surprise. The answer is an after proposal engagement party. This is where her friends and family can step in and help, have their own tasks to take care of, while keeping them preoccupied and away from chatting with your gal.
Another option, is to tell just one friend or family member who orchestrates a casual dinner outing with family and friends. This way your trusted person, can release the secret (that you’re proposing), an hour or two before so everyone has a heads up but is less likely to accidentally say something to your future fiancée.
Not totally set on the dinner party engagement idea? It’s definitely nice to have some time to celebrate just the two of you, so planning any after party filled with drinks and dessert is just as meaningful but you still get that alone time with her at dinner. Trust us, if it’s important for her to celebrate with her family and friends then you’ll want to plan a little get together so she can show off her new sparkly ring and share your proposal story.
