Ten Romantic Ideas for a surprise date for your boyfriend!

1. Make a homemade special dinner. I’m not talking about burgers on the Habachi. I mean something special. My friend was telling me the story about the first time she made dinner for her boyfriend. She knew he loved Italian food and made a great homemade lasagna. She created an elaborate meal and then set up the dining area like an Italian restaurant, complete with appetizers, San Pellegrino (don’t forget the limes), candles, romantic music and she finished it off with cannolis (purchased fresh that day at an Italian bakery.) Her now husband will tell you that was the first time he knew he wanted to marry her. It was a very memorable night for them both.

2. Get tickets to his favorite sports team event. Check out last minute deals on stub hub or the box office or ask all your friends if they know someone with special seats. Surprise him by reserving the night to do something average, but then stealing him away to the game.

3. Watch for his favorite band to come to town and get tickets. See if there is a VIP level and go the extra mile to make it a special night. One idea is to get your other couple friends to pitch in for a limo for the night. Have Sushi in the limo on the way to the event.

4. Take a cooking class together. Make sure it is a genre of food he enjoys. I have heard so many people that said it seemed like their boyfriend wouldn’t like cooking but once they got to the class they found they loved it!

5. Go play miniature golf. Who doesn’t like putt putt? This is one of those activities that just is a fun time – especially if you make it interesting….place a bet for a massage for the winner!

6. Spend a day at the Spa. Many people don’t realize that most Spas will allow you to use the general facilities all day if you just purchase one treatment. So even if you can’t afford the high end “couples treatment,” you can get a massage for your boyfriend, and get a manicure and you can still lounge by the pool the rest of the day and relax together. Most guys don’t realize how awesome a day at the spa is. They think it is a girly thing to do. Once they are there and get one of those amazing massages, and they see how many men are actually there, they turn in to life long converts!!!

7. Make a picnic basket and take him to a scenic, quiet spot to have dinner and watch the sunset. Here is a classic picnic tip: homemade fried chicken. I don’t care who you are, there is something so yummy about a fried chicken picnic – pack his favorite microbrewery beer or his favorite type of wine, cheese and crackers, grapes and anything else that is picnic appropriate. It will be a great memory.

8. Spontenaity is important! Call him last minute to meet for a drink after work at his favorite bar. Get to the bar early and reserve a spot off in the corner. Be flirtatious, make it like the first time you met each other!

9. Steal him away! Tell him your bff needs help moving or something else that will reserve the day then surprise him by taking him to the mountains or the lake or beach for a fun day. He will show up expecting to be a giving person by helping someone out and working hard all day and instead you will treat him to a mini retreat!

10. Movie and a dinner. No, I didn’t write that incorrectly. Everyone does dinner and a movie. Here is the problem with that model, you have dinner at peak hour, the restaurant is crowded, loud, you’re in a rush because you don’t want to miss the movie and then you see the movie and promptly go home and go to bed. Instead, try hitting an early movie…around 4:30 or 5 and then after the movie go out to eat. Then you can eat a leisurely dinner, have great conversation and just enjoy each other’s company for the rest of the evening.
