- Use the holiday warm and fuzzies to your advantage. The best part about a Thanksgiving proposal is that you have a lot working to your advantage- the leaves are changing, travel plans seem less-suspicious, and most people start to feel the warmth and excitement of the upcoming holidays. Use these things to your advantage since they aren’t typically available year-round!
- Include a message of gratitude or words of affirmation. Even if words aren’t their love language, we can promise you that no one hates being told how amazing they are. It’s the season of being grateful, after all- and what better time than a proposal than to share how thankful you are to be able to spend the rest of your life with the one you love most?
- Take a moment to celebrate just the two of you. You’ll have plenty of time to share your engagement between Friends-givings and parent’s Thanksgivings and grandparent’s Thanksgivings (does anyone ever have just one place to go on Thanksgiving?) It’s important to take a minute to soak in your excitement and happiness before sharing it with the world. Before you know it, you’ll be overwhelmed with questions like: “Have you set a date?” “Where will you be getting married?” “How did the proposal happen?” If family and friends are included in the proposal, find a few minutes to sneak off by yourself afterwards to talk about how excited you are for the future.
- Have a good hiding place for the ring. If you show up to Grandma’s with a ring box in your pocket, EVERYONE will notice- including nosy Aunt Betsy who will undoubtedly blow the proposal. Tuck the box into your Box Sock pocket instead, since nosy Aunt Betsy will probably not be snooping around your feet!
