Hey there! My name is Stephanie May Wilson (from The Lipstick Gospel) and my wedding was just six weeks ago. We got married in the gardens of a hotel near Atlanta on 4th of July weekend. This is a picture of us. We’re just a little bit happy. Can you tell?
With our wedding so fresh in my mind, I’m so happy to join the Yes Girls and give you my recommendation and regret. I hope it’ll help you in your wedding planning process!
Recommendation:
Our friends and family are scattered all over the country and so instead of making our wedding a day, we made it a full weekend. Our guests began arriving on Wednesday night and stayed until Sunday. Everyone had rooms at the same hotel and we were able to rest, relax, and spend quality time together for the whole holiday weekend. When I think back on our wedding, that was my favorite part. It’s rare to have all of your favorite people in one place all at the same time, and I’m glad we had more than just a few hours to spend together.
Regret:
I wish I had discussed my bridal portraits with my photographer ahead of time. She did an incredible job on our photos, but my least favorite part by far are the photos of me by myself. They’re very serious, and very traditional, and the whole time we were taking them, I just felt unnatural. I would have greatly preferred something more relaxed and candid for my portraits, but since I never told her that, she had no way of knowing. Different brides like different things, and I think it’s good to discuss preferences ahead of time. That way they can be looking for poses and moments that fit your personality instead of trying to guess.
