Hello soon-to-be-engaged and engaged readers! Today’s blog is written for you. Many of our dearest friends are getting engaged and this has been a popular topic of discussion. Personally, I know how difficult it can be finding that “meant to be” wedding venue that is fits within your budget and style.
Many places you’ll stop by should have wedding packages but it’s best to be aware and know the right questions to ask while searching for that dream wedding ceremony and reception site. It sets the mood and style for your wedding so it’s a big and usually an expensive decision.
Feel free to print this list of questions, and take it with you to your potential venue to discuss with the catering department and/or manager.
1. What is your gratuity percentage or service charge fee?
2. Do you have a cake cutting fee or is it included?
3. Is a champagne toast included? If so, does your staff serve it or put bottles on tables?
4. What is the price for the dance floor? Is there a service charge on top of that? (Service charge meaning do they have a fee to set-up)
5. What is included in the price per person? Such as, tables, chairs, linens, napkins, mirrors, votives, place settings, guest book table, cake table, gift table? What type of chairs do they offer?
6. Do you have heaters on property in case we need them?
7. Where are the bathrooms for guests?
8. Do you provide the bar set-up? Is there a minimum for the bar? If so, what is it, and what is the set-up fee if minimum is not met? Do you provide a bartender, if not how much is it?
9. If I bring in own wine and beer is their a corkage fee? And if so, is that taxed?
10. What exactly is included in ceremony? Such as, ceremony arch, runner, chairs, speakers, mic for pastor, or does DJ have to bring sound equipment, etc.? Most venues should include sound equipment in their wedding packages.
11. Is it a flat ceremony fee or do you charge sales tax and service charge on top of that?
12. Do you have a place for the bride and groom to get ready prior to ceremony?
13. What is your rain alternative location?
14. What is your pricing for Friday/Sunday evening weddings?
15. Do you have different pricing for off-season events and what months are included in the off-season?
16. If your fiancé is military, do they offer a military discount?
Ask the catering manager to print up a quote (including service charge and tax) for you to take home and review. It’s better to have all your information up front than a sneak attack that costs you in the long run. Happy wedding shopping ladies and gents!
