We love all things proposals and engagements and…desserts! We found these adorable engagement party favors (which can really be used for bridal and baby showers too) and had to share. It is a fun and delicious do-it-yourself project and you can adorn these cake pops with any color. It not only saves on your budget, but it also provides a personal touch and style to your friend’s or sister’s engagement party. Heather and I took photos along the way so you know exactly how to make these yummy favors.

step9

Step 1. Choose a cake flavor at the store (we recommend Betty Crocker), vanilla, chocolate, red velvet, etc. and bake in a 13×9 baking dish (follow directions on the back of the box). We did one batch of vanilla and one of chocolate, just to mix things up a bit!

Step 2. After you bake your cake, let it cool at least a couple of hours but best if left overnight. Once your cake has cooled, crumble cake into fine pieces in mixing bowl.  Mix the frosting (3/4 of cream cheese whipped frosting) in with the cake crumbles. Mix WELL and put in the refrigerator for an hour or just in the freezer for 20 minutes.

Step 3. Roll cake/frosting mix into 1″ balls (make sure they are not too big because it will be more difficult when dipping into frosting).  To make the lollipop stick stay, it is best to melt a few of the chocolates in a small bowl and dip the ends of the sticks before putting them into the cake balls.  Then stick the pan of cake balls (with the lollipop sticks in them) into the refrigerator for 15 minutes.

Step 4. Melt chocolate pieces (follow directions on package) in a microwavable bowl and stir well.  If the chocolate becomes too thick just add some vegetable oil for better consistency.  Now you can begin dipping the cake balls into the melted chocolate. After you finish dipping, immediately decorate cake ball with any other edible candy you choose. Place each cake pop into the styrofoam block (the more styrofoam you have the more cake pops you are able to complete at a time).  Note: Don’t melt too many chocolate pieces at a time.

Step 5. Once you finish, put the cake pops into the refrigerator (IMPORTANT: do not put in freezer- it may cause cracking).

Step 6. For the final and special touch, you can put your cake pops into candy bags and tie them off with ribbon. This makes for great engagement favors… you can choose a variety of color or edible decorations so it coordinates well with the event. For example, we wrote the couple’s monogram with yellow frosting. This is also a cute idea for baby shower; you can use these cake pops as rattles!
