A Yes Girl Says “Yes!”

A Yes Girl said “Yes!” Many of you have been patiently waiting to see the beautiful photos of Kendall and Tommy’s engagement, which were taken by our close friend, Melissa with Miss Meliss Photography. Tommy, your proposal was the definition of thoughtfulness. You made her proud! So without further ado, here is Tommy and Kendall’s proposal story.

Kendall showed up August 8th convinced  she was setting up a marriage proposal for a client. To completely fool Kendall, I had Tommy fill out the questionnaire we use for all our clients. The girl ironically had some similarities to Kendall. I emailed the questionnaire to all the Yes Girls just like usual, however, this time the couple was completely made up by Tommy. Of course Lindsay and Becca were also in on it. Kendall submitted her proposal idea for this fake couple. Just to up the ante, we incorporated one of her ideas into her own proposal! How could we not?

Mason jar lanterns were hung from the trees and covered the steps in flower petals and floating candles that allured Kendall up the steps to a personalized table in the center of the patio. With the a 180 degree view of Dana Point Harbor it was so Bachelor-esk! The entire setting was to Kendall’s taste- elegant, chic, and vintage. The table was adorned with purple linens (her favorite color), white vintage chairs with adorable gray pillows, a gorgeous bouquet of her favorite flowers set in a silver vintage vase, and chocolate covered strawberries. Accompanying those items were two wine glasses with two bottles of wine. One bottle was open for Tommy and Kendall to toast with that evening while the other was to save for their 20th wedding anniversary. Wait…it gets better! Next to the wine was a letter box with a letter inside from Tommy. The box was for her to save all the cards he would write her in the future. Beside the table stood an easel with a painting of Tommy and Kendall in the classic proposal pose! This was Kendall’s idea for the fake couple’s proposal (which was such a great idea) that we incorporated it into hers! Lastly, there was a photo book on the table. The heart of Tommy’s proposal and he spent many hours perfecting it.

When Kendall arrived, Tommy, the Yes Girls, and friends were already hiding in the bushes. We had some difficulty shooing away onlookers and silencing a guitar player who thought he was Jimmy Buffett, but once she arrived, everyone hushed to witness the love story. Becca was waiting for Kendall who arrived with Melissa. Kendall knew Becca would be there to help her set up and supposedly Melissa would be taking pictures for the fake client’s proposal. Not quite sure what was going on yet, Becca had to give Kendall a little boost up the stairs. All Lindsay and I could hear was “Oh my gosh” and “I’m going to kill you guys!” What a way to start the evening, right? Kendall was taken aback to say the least.

Once Kendall sat down and caught glimpse of the photo book it all pieced together. The photo book consisted of special moments and events over the years. Kendall and Tommy are infamously known for how many weddings they attend every summer so as Kendall skimmed the last pages it showed photos of her and Tommy at weddings, after weddings, after weddings…until she reached the last page and which said “Now it’s our turn.” That was Tommy’s cue as he strolled around the corner, instantly dropped to one knee and asked Kendall to be his wife! These are just a few photos I took of the scenery.

We could barely contain ourselves. As soon as we saw Kendall jump up and say “Yes” we all screamed from behind the bushes. The crowd joined us with a huge applause and whistles. Sorry Tommy for not giving you a few seconds with your fianceé before revealing we were there. Kendall had no idea Lindsay and I were hiding, so we were just excited to see her. After lots of hugs, Tommy and Kendall received their alone time enjoying their wine and taking a walk through Heritage Park while the girls and I headed over to their surprise engagement party. The evening was full of celebration and one beautifully happy engaged couple!
