Who knew romance and baseball could ever mesh for a marriage proposal? Jumbo trons are an automatic “no no” when it comes to marriage proposals so we had to get creative with Tim’s proposal to Kelsie, who has a huge…and I mean HUGE love for baseball. Tim said she wanted it to be romantic, personal, and original and that is precisely what she got!
Tim treated Kelsie to a romantic meal at her favorite restaurant. At dinner he handed her a gift which happened to be a framed, old photograph of the Minnesota Twins Stadium (her ultimate love besides Tim). Although it completely foreshadowed what was to come, Tim said he saw it in a store and had to get it for her. Knowing she would probably expect the proposal to happen over dinner, he of course had something better planned.
After dinner, he drove her to local baseball field. When they walked out onto the field, the entire baseball diamond was glowing with candles outlining all the bases. They live in Omaha so he and some friends previously shoveled the snow to create a walking path around the diamond. On every base he left her a little something that represented a memory together. On first base, he left her a new dog collar for her pup because they met at a dog park. Second base she found a Christmas ornament to signify one of their favorite moments together and third base, she collected a Minnesota Twins Jersey that said “Mrs. Overland” (his last name) which also represented her favorite date, when Tim took her to see the Twins play. Finally, she arrived at home plate, which was empty. It was purposely left bare for the memory about to happen. That is when Tim pulled out a baseball from his jacket, opened the baseball which held her engagement ring inside! He definitely hit a home run; yes, a cheesy way to say it but so very true!
There were two tips we gave Tim to avoid any pre-proposal drama. Tim packed Kelsie a warm jacket and boots to wear after dinner so she was willing to walk around the field with him. Secondly, he used battery operated candles in the snow. We are big advocates of planning and considering all things a gentleman needs to make his proposal smooth and perfect.
