After reading and hearing various proposal stories, this one took me by surprise. John and Lizzie’s proposal is adorable yes, but what made this proposal a total surprise was what John proposed with! I got the story from Lizzie’s perspective.  Thank you Lizzie for sharing!

“I (Lizzie) finally open the gift wrapped box and it’s a watch! So, I’m really confused by then. I look at him and he says,  “Merry Christmas! WILL YOU MARRY ME?” and I’m totally speechless.

Here’s some history behind the watch instead of a ring.  I’ve never owned a fancy watch. I just use my phone. No big deal. Well John has always said that a watch is a woman’s most beautiful and functional piece of jewelery and just couldn’t believe that I had never had one before! So, it is only suiting that he propose with an engagement watch. It is BEAUTIFUL. It is a 18k gold and stainless steel Cartier “Tank Francaise” watch with blue steel hands and a sapphire on the crown.”

After listening to their story, I was challenged to consider another possibility to illustrate engagements. Does it have to be an ring or can it be an engagement watch with a wedding band to follow?  I love the tradition of the ring, but it would definitely be a total surprise to receive a gorgeous watch, and in Lizzie’s case, a meaningful story behind the watch too!

Love,
