If you are close to or newly engaged, it’s important to know how to take care of your gorgeous, sparkling ring. After receiving inquiries, we felt these two topics were important to cover for anyone with a special and/or expensive ring.

Insure Your Ring

How To: First, you want to ask your jeweler for the appraisal on your ring; the insurance company will need a copy of your appraisal to begin. I’ve found the best and easiest way to insure your jewelry is through your bank. Kyle and I use USAA (which if you are in the military is a quality bank for insuring jewelry) and it was so simple. He called our bank, asked to insure my engagement ring under “valuable personal property” and within one phone call my ring was insured.

Purpose: If you’re diamond or center stone gets lost, stolen or chips you are covered and will have no problem replacing it. You wear this piece of jewelry everyday, so I cannot encourage you enough to get your ring insured and right away! Unfortunately, I’ve heard to many bad stories about lost or chipped diamonds. If your guy doesn’t know this information, pass it along so they can insure your ring before he even puts it on your finger.

Clean Your Ring

How To: For your day to day wear, you can buy an ammonia free cleaning formula from your local Target, Walgreens, etc. Dip your ring in the solution and 60 seconds later it’s ready to be lightly brushed (included in cleaner) and rinsed. You’re ring will look like it did the first time he placed it on your finger! Another tip, it’s important to take your ring into a jeweler for a good cleaning and check up. If you have white gold, jewelers recommend getting the gold refinished every year; this prevents your prongs/band from wearing down and losing diamonds. No one wants that!

Love,
