With the economy being what it is these days, holiday gift giving can be quite difficult. I think sometimes people think special has to be expensive. So not true…listen to this thoughtful gift we helped a friend of ours create for his wife.

Derek and Angie have been together for 12 years. He’s bought her every piece of jewelry, spa treatments, dance lessons, you name it. They just bought a new house and so of course, spending tons of money on gifts for each other seems a bit crazy. Derek keeps telling me they’re not going to exchange gifts this year, that their gift to each other is the house.
The house really is beautiful, but I tried to explain to him, “I know now isn’t the time to go spending a bunch, but let me tell you she’s not going to get the warm and fuzzies and feel that holiday love on Christmas morning, when you remind her, ‘Oh yeah, we already got our gift.’ Everyone (ok let me narrow that down….every girl) wants something under the tree to open and every girl, in the end, just wants something thoughtful. Most thoughtful things aren’t expensive at all.”
So here’s what we came up with for Derek. It’s so cute I can almost see her delight on Christmas morning! Derek is going to videotape interviews of the 10 closest people in Angie’s life: her two sons, her parents, siblings, best friends; then at the end, their boys will interview Derek asking the same questions he asked them, all centered around Angie. Questions like…How they would describe her? How much they love her? What they love about her? What ways she’s been impactful in their lives? He’ll record all the most important people to her, saying the things they don’t say nearly as often as they should.
I can not imagine a gift more filled with love. It’s going to be so awesome and certainly a gift she’ll treasure forever. Happy Holidays!
Love,
