Boho Wedding Inspiration

Secret’s Out – Boho Chic is totally in! (Okay well it’s been “in” for a while now!) Brides are totally embracing this trend and I’m not complaining! The bohemian bride is relaxed, and flowy. Here are a few of my favorite inspirational pictures that compliment this natural style… seriously so fun!

Engagement Photo Props

Make your engagement photos as unique as your relationship! Show your fun and quirky side with props to give an added unique flair.

    1. Umbrella. Shield the glaring sun, or stay dry amidst showers, an umbrella is a cute and classic prop for engagement pictures. It causes you to snuggle in close, and can be used for up close headshot type shots if it is extremely sunny outside to create a less harsh tone.
    2. Blanket/blanket scarf. This one is pretty popular, but make it your own! Use a t-shirt quilt of all of the races the two of you ran together, snuggle up in a blanket your mom crocheted for you when you left for college, etc. Props create an instant love story conversation piece.

    1. Personalized drink ware. Engaved champagne flutes, Mr. and Mrs. coffee mugs, Starbucks coffee with a “fiancee” name written on the side, you get the idea. This creates an instant close up shot of your  left hand with that gorgeous sparkler. It creates a natural pose, and gives a lifestyle portrait vibe that can make you feel relaxed.
    2. Animals. Do you and your significant other share a pet? You can’t forget your furry friend when taking photos. Seize the opportunity to take a family photo with your pet. This doesn’t just have to apply to pets. Horses in a field, birds flying in a flock around you, butterflies in a garden, and many others are also great ways to incorporate animals to create a one of a kind photo.

    1. Food/drink. You love chocolate truffles and he loves craft beer. Make a picnic out of it, displaying and styling it beautifully for a relaxed and cozy lifestyle portrait session. Feed each other for a romantic and intimate shot. You can’t get much more personal than indulging in your favorite food and drink.
    2. Transportation. Some of the best engagement photos are the ones taken between sites. Take photos on the metro, subway, in a taxi cab, on a bicycle, on a motorcycle, in your favorite car. This usually appeases to your man, so let him have fun with this!

At Home Date Idea: Beer Tasting Game

Love hosting fun nights in with your friends? Or even just looking for a great at home date night idea? What about a blind beer tasting game?! It’s fun, it’s different (not that a good ole fashion pizza and movie night isn’t awesome…) and it’s not crazy expensive!

Draft Magazine asked Michael Ferrari, a cicerone and manager of The Common Table in Dallas, for his best blind tasting flight. “There is so much variation among beers that look exactly the same, and having beers that are visually indistinguishable leaves all of the guesswork to the two most important senses in beer sampling: smell and taste,” he says. “The best mix is one that uses a few style archetypes with a couple of oddballs to keep things interesting.

How to Create an At Home Blind Beer Tasting Game:

  1. Create the menu.
  2. Put all the beer bottles into brown paper bags (ya know, the real classy ones from the liquor stores!) and then wrap a rubber band around the neck so there can’t be cheaters!
  3. Pour all your guests a sample of each beer. To keep all the beers organized, we recommend getting a butcher’s paper table cloth. Then you can have each guest draw 5 circles around their beer mugs and write 1 through 5 under each circle. Pour everyone a sample of Beer #1 first, then Beer #2, and on and on.
  4. Under each of their samples, guests can write on the butcher paper table cover and take notes about each flavor.
  5. After the reveals, the guest that got the most guesses correct gets to take home the left over beer!

Napa Garden Marriage Proposal by The Yes Girls

proposal in garden in wine country

John was one of those clients that I could tell from our first conversation he was super nervous already. He called us back in September to start planning his proposal that wouldn’t happen until February! With every phone call and email his kindness came through and his desire to make this day everything that Ashley would ever want was clear. For their proposal, John flew out their closest family members to surprise her! During their proposal, John showed Ashley a video on his iPad that he had made reminiscing on all their great memories. While she was distracted by the video, their family walked up from behind (in matching engagement shirts!) and lined up holding a beautiful calligraphy sign that said “My first my last my everything” (because John calls Ashley those things).

Changing Your Name After Marriage Without the Stress

dropping your maiden name There is so much planning, preparing and plotting that goes into pulling off the perfect wedding day that it seems almost impossible to see anything past the day itself! After months (maybe even years) of thinking of nothing but your dress, your hair, your venue and the menu, you’d think that after the wedding, all the preparations are over with. Think again!

Although you are officially married after the wedding, there is one more step you must take; officially changing your name!

Hitchswitch and Miss Now Mrs. both provide a name changing service in which they take care of everything for you for a small fee, but if you would rather DIY, here is the worry-free guide to changing your name after marriage!
couple dancing at wedding reception

  1. Get a Few Copies of Your Marriage Certificate: Before you can do anything, you must have this certificate! Head over to your county clerk and ask for your long-form marriage certificate. (This will make for an easier process in the long run, I promise!)
  2. Updating Your Social Security Card: Next, visit the Social Security Administration’s website and fill out the application to apply for your new SS card. If you prefer to do this in person, you will need several original documents besides your marriage certificate to the SS office to proving your age, identity, and U.S. citizenship or lawful immigration status. A valid driver’s license will do!
  3. Take a Trip to the DMV: We all hate the DMV, but this is a necessary step to legally changing your name. (Unfortunately.) Check your local DMV’s website to be super prepared before you go, they may list all the forms you’ll need! Don’t forget your marriage certificate, license and basically every form of ID you have. Anything to make your DMV trip go smoothly!
  4. Take a Deep Breath: Because you did it! The worst is over. The only thing left to do is make a couple of phone calls or visits to update your name everywhere else. Here’s a quick list of some sports you may have forgotten to update on your name change:
    • Your job
    • Your passport
    • Your leases (car, apartment, etc.)
    • Your bank
    • Your doctor
    • Student loans
    • Your attorney
    • Your cellphone company
    • Insurance companies
    • Credit cards
    • And of course, your social media accounts, HELLO!

Engagement Ring Insurance

engagement ring in green ring box You’ve gone through a lot of work to find the perfect ring, you’ve worked many hours to pay for it, and you want to do everything in your power to keep it safe. Whether you are traveling abroad, nearby, or are just like to be safe rather than sorry, engagement ring insurance is probably something you’ve thought of. In fact, it is a good idea for everybody.

Most home owner’s insurance plans cover personal items, like rings. However this is just to a certain amount of money. Most people buy an extension that covers specific personal items, like engagement and wedding rings. The average cost of this is $1-2 for every $100 that would be spent to replace your ring. Getting insurance is a smart idea, and also shows that you take your marriage seriously and will do anything to protect it as rings are a very symbolic and sentimental aspect. To make sure this is the case, be sure to get your ring professionally appraised to get your ring on file. This way if it is lost, stolen, or broken it will be covered and you won’t have to sweat. A lot of times an engagement ring will be listed under the brides parents’ insurance, so be sure to get this transitioned once you are legally married!
