Park City, Utah Chocolate Bar Marriage Proposal

Park City, Utah Lake Wedding Proposal

Randall and Kelley traveled to Park City, Utah all the way from Hawaii to celebrate New Years- well, and get engaged! Randall told us that his girl loves loves loves chocolate so for their big moment we created a winter wonderland style chocolate bar! With frozen lavender strands, pine cones, and tons of different types of chocolate their proposal was uniquely perfect! Plus, when we asked Randall to describe their love for chocolate, he said “my weakness used to be chocolate, but now it’s Kelley” so we just had to put that on a calligraphy sign! :)

Something Borrowed Something New

Wedding planning is such an exciting time in your life. Yet, it always seems to be linked synonymously with stress and anxiety. For me personally, I have 7 weddings I look forward to attending next summer. My sister got married six months ago, and I will be getting married in 395 days (can you tell I’m pretty excited?). With all of these weddings, it always seems like it can be a competition for who has the best décor, cake, photographer, and overall experience at the event. So what is one way that us ladies can help each other out and relieve some of this stress?

Social media can be such a blessing when it comes to networking and collaborating. Many brides after their wedding day enjoy posting photos from their day, and those beautiful sparkling decorations go into storage. Why not collaborate and reuse them?

Okay, I know this sounds less exciting than raiding the aisles of Hobby Lobby and Michaels, but hear me out. You don’t need to copy someone’s entire wedding when you borrow, rent, or buy pieces from another wedding.

In all of the photos throughout this post, you’ll see the same black and white striped table runners. Some of the photos are from a styled photo shoot I coordinated and designed in July 2016, and some are from my sister’s wedding in May 2016. The florals, lighting, photography, atmosphere/setting, and color of table clothes make a huge difference and can give an entirely different look and feel. By using different color palettes, warm vs. cool, as well as black vs. white table clothes, they are completely different looks and beautiful in their own way.

The sunset color palette is striking and vibrant, while in comparison the green and white look is very fresh and clean. You honestly can’t go wrong with either, and the black and white stripes, simple bud vases, and white lanterns are classic staple pieces that truly complete each look.

5 Low Budget Date Ideas for Valentine’s Day

It’s the new year and the holidays are over and done with, but you have realized that your bank account doesn’t love Valentine’s Day as much as you do. Your significant other has been begging you to go on date, but you have yet to get even think of a gift, better yet a DATE. I figured that a list of 5 low budget dates for this Valentine’s Day would be appropriate! Here a few that might do:

  1. Make a picnic and go to the local park overlooking the city
Premade sandwiches, cheese tray, grapes and a bottle of wine are the perfect setup for an outdoor picnic; or indoor if the weather doesn’t allow. Go to the local park and take a blanket to snuggle up on. Go at sunset to make it even more romantic. This will both get you out of the house without spending any money, except on the food! (Image Credit)

  2. Netflix and Chill
If it is too chilly outside, take a warm blanket, maybe even start a fire, and start a movie on Netflix. Cuddle on up and have a movie marathon. Here are a couple you can find on Netflix: Remember Me, 50 First Dates, Hitch, Along Came Polly, and many more. I’m sure you have Titanic or The Notebook somewhere on the shelf. (Image Credit)

  3. Couple’s Fitness Class
A lot of fitness places do first time free classes. Take advantage of the cycling or yoga studio down the street and sign up for a class. Go sweat it out together, or have something to laugh about for the rest of the week.
  4. Couple’s Party
This would probably be much more fun for the boys that can sit back and relax! Have a Valentine’s Day party!! Girls, plan a fun party and decorate the house with everything pink and with so many hearts. Invite all your couple friends (maybe even the single ones to set up) and enjoy each other’s company while playing games like Cards Against Humanity, the new popular game, Speak Out, and maybe even a game of Truth or Dare.
  5. Go to the Local Museum
Even though this might not be entirely free, they usually aren’t too expensive. Dress up in your nice clothes, and go to the local museum, art, science, natural history. Help each other learn about the different history throughout the museum and learn something new about each other along the way. (Image Credit)

  6. Get Outdoors
Make the effort to get outside and enjoy each other’s company. Go hiking, go biking, or even make it a night event and go camping.

Hope these help get you out of the house for some fun time spent with your significant other. You don’t always have to spend lots of money to make a date memorable. Remember to put the technology away and really engage with each other this holiday. Cupid is watching!

How To Buy A Vintage Engagement Ring

Timeless, classic, unique. These adjectives are all ones that come to mind when thinking about vintage engagement rings. Many couples decide to go this route for a couple of reasons. Whether it is loving the classic styles that have still remained beautiful through the years, or having a unique piece that you won’t see on anyone else. For many people vintage engagement rings also bring piece of mind because the diamonds are conflict free and are getting rehomed.

The four factors when searching for the right engagement ring, whether it is vintage or not, are the 4 C’s: clarity, cut, color, and carat. Any gem consultant or dealer should be able to assess the jewelry and diamonds, and point out any flaws within the diamond. Many flaws cannot be picked up by the naked eye, but they should still be honest. For any diamond around one carat or larger, certification papers should be present. Getting the ring appraised and evaluated by another party is also a good idea to ensure that it is worth the price.  The different eras can be broken down by time period, this will make it easier for you to locate which style you want to focus on.

Victorian Era 1836-1901

This period was named because of Queen Victoria’s reign of England. Her influence of her family is shown with these rings with the romantic designs in the shapes of hearts, flowers, and birds. Opal was the popular and favorite gem of the queen, but halfway through this time period diamonds were discovered. Engagement rings from the Victorian era are influenced by nature and have a romantic classic look. (Image Source Here)

Edwardian Era 1895-1914

King Edward of England and his Danish bride enjoyed high levels of craftsmanship, as well as fine filigree work. Diamonds and platinum as well as delicate and cosmopolitan designs are popular from this period. (Image Source Here)

Art Deco Era 1920-1939

This period marked a huge shift in style. The Art Deco period showcases bright colors and sharp lines in contrast to the romantic and delicate markings of earlier eras. This time period was effected by the jazz era and pop culture was a large influence on the edginess of this new jewelry design. Liberation, innovation, and trend setting are all words that can describe this era. (Image Source Here)

Retro Era 1935-1950

This era is well known because of its placement during the Great Depression and World War II. Synthetic rubies and sapphires became popular, as well as chunky, square, and illusion settings that gave the appearance of a larger stone. Tiffany & Co, Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels made themselves known during this period. If you are looking for a classic ring that could be seen on the Hollywood elite this era is for you. (Image Source Here)

Places to purchase antique engagement rings are antique jewelry shops, estate sales, jewelry stores that resell for customers, Trumpet and Horn, Etsy, Libertons, and 1st Dibs. Antique engagement rings are perfect for any timeless, classic, and unique bride who wants a ring with a story.

Private Dinner on the Beach Marriage Proposal in San Diego

couple getting engaged on the beach in san diego

Shane knew exactly what he wanted to create when he contacted The Yes Girls to help plan his San Diego marriage proposal. He asked us for an intimate, private dinner on the beach with an acoustic guitarist playing a special song to the couple. We created a fake dinner reservation for Shane and Katie at Hotel Del Coronado (one of the San Diego landmarks that they wanted to check out while on vacation) and when they “arrived early” they went for a stroll on the beach and actually stumbled upon this beautiful set up just for them. Thoughtful, simple, and breathtaking with that iconic view!

Three Things to say Goodbye to: Wedding on a Budget

Let’s face it unless your last name is Kardashian, in this day and age everything is expensive. Don’t be afraid to admit that you may not be able to afford everything you expected of your dream wedding. But don’t worry, you’ll soon realize that all of those little items weren’t that important at all. As your reading this I’m sure you’re already guessing what my number one thing to say goodbye to on that special day is… If you guess flowers you’re right!

    1. Flowers…. Yes they’re beautiful, smell amazing and add that special touch, but like all living things… they die. Now I know death is not the first thing you should think of in regards to your wedding day but its true. According to the 2014 survey from TheKnot.com, the average bride spends $2,141 on flowers alone. I’m not sure about you but I would rather spend that much money on something that will last me more than just a couple days prior to the wedding.
What to do Instead: FEATHERS. Depending on where you get them, feathers can still be pricey, but nowhere close to the price of flowers. Let’s be honest, feathers give a whole different vibe, they’re beautiful but in much different ways than flowers and you can even have fun making your own centerpieces, especially if you’re a girl of my own heart and want a Great Gatsby style wedding… (If only we all had to budget of Jay Gatsby himself)
      wedding budget savers
    1. Designer Shoes… This is something that most people don’t even think about. You have your designer dress so now you need a matching pair of designer shoes… right? WRONG. Don’t get my wrong a good shoe goes a long way and you could wear it again after, but if you’ve already purchased your dream dress that probably costs more than expected, you don’t need a shoe that’s price matches it. Unless your dress is short, most people won’t see your shoes… go to your local Macy’s and I’m sure you can find a pair of shoes that are just as cute and comfy (you’ll thank me later) for a third of the price. OR if you’re wedding is in the summer or on the beach… ditch the shoes completely!
      wedding budget savers
    1. Plated, Served Meal… Each plate on average costs anywhere from $68-$75 and at least in my own experience, a lot of people don’t eat their dishes at all or finish them. Last summer I went to a wedding that was buffet style. The bride and groom had to cut corners some places and decided that the food would be one of them. Even though they technically still paid per guest their cost of each dish was around $50 and their was so many different opinions when it came to food; instead of just having the opinion of the generic chicken, steak and vegetarian dishes.
