7 Places to Propose Across the Globe

The only thing better than traveling with your significant other is to start the trip as ‘significant others’ and end the trip as ‘fiancés’! When it comes to international travel, you have an endless number of places to pop the question, but a few are a head above the rest. Listed below are seven of the most gorgeous places on the face of the earth that double as the most gorgeous places to propose!
best place in the world to propose

  1. Nā Pali Coast, Kauai, Hawaii | jacilynmblog.com

While traveling to Hawaii isn’t exactly traveling abroad, it is still a top destination for weddings and proposals alike! Take your pick from jungles, waterfalls, beaches or resorts; Hawaii has all of that to offer and more. For instance, The Nā Pali Coast State Park is a 6,175 acres Hawaiian state park located in the center of the north west side of Kauai, the oldest inhabited Hawaiian island.

best place in the world to propose

2. Kawachi Fuji Garden, Kitakyushu, Japan

If you are planning a trip to Japan, make sure you make the Kawachi Fuji Garden top ten on your list of places to visit. This gorgeous garden features a pastel-colored tunnel straight out of a fairy tale. Take a walk through one of the two tunnels lined with Wisteria flowers and allow the wonder of it all inspire you to drop down on one knee.

best place in the world to propose

3. Juliet’s Balcony, Verona, Italy

Romeo and Juliet’s love story didn’t end all that well, (spoiler) but it started beautifully at Juliet’s balcony. Is your loved one a Shakespeare fan or a fan of literature in general? This spot, located in Verona, Italy, can give your proposal an element of classic romance that will be remembered fondly. (Just like all of those Shakespearian sonnets you had to memorize in high school.)

best place in the world to propose

4. The Mulia, Bali, Indonesia

The Mulia is slightly different from the rest of the locations on this list because it is a resort tucked away in Bali. For those who prefer lounging and relaxing to hiking and touring, the luxury Mulia provides a stunning backdrop for a fancy proposal. You can take your pick from the four restaurants and five bars, the signature Oasis beachfront pools or the cabanas with poolside treatment.

best place in the world to propose

5. Isle of Skye, Scotland

The Isle of Skye is the northernmost island in the inner Hebrides of Scotland and is home to the most dramatic mountain scenery in the country. Referred to in many novels, poems and songs alike, Isle of Skye provides a picturesque view and other-worldly feel to your storybook proposal.

best place in the world to propose

6. The Mayan Ruins, Tulum, Mexico

If your plan is to tour Mexico, Tulum is probably already high on your list. If your significant other is a history buff, they will undoubtedly want to check out the Mayan Ruins, a stunning reminder of the powerful civilization that once ruled Central America. The temples remain standing after a millennium, but feeling the history and magic of this spot may make you drop to one knee.

best place in the world to propose

7. Cliffs of Moher, County Clare, Ireland

The Cliffs of Moher are Ireland’s most visited attraction, and it is clear to see why! Stretching for five miles along the Atlantic Ocean, with sight of the Aran Islands and Galway Bay on a clear day, there is no better spot in all of Ireland to propose. Steal away from the crowds, take in the view, and ask the question you’ve been dying to since you boarded the plane!

Any and all of these places serve as a perfect setting for a proposal, so long as you don’t forget this one rule: make sure there is someone around to capture the moment so you can share it with all of your loved ones back home! Safe travels!

Moss Covered Numbers Proposal in McKinney, TX

wedding proposal at The Gather in Dallas

Marlon and Nelly have been dating since high school! In fact, they have been together now for EIGHT YEARS! So, to honor those wonderful eight years they have been together, we had 8 moss-covered numbers created (and then covered in flowers that are Nelly’s favorite colors). For each number Marlon had a favorite memory that also created a promise for the future to Nelly. For example, “I promise to pursue you no matter the distance” for the year that the couple had to be in a long distance relationship. This couple was so sweet and so genuinely in love – we absolutely loved being a part of this big moment!

Wedding Registry Tips and Tricks

The topic of wedding registries usually comes with sighs, stories of first fights in the silverware aisle, and stress from brides to be when considering everything they need to put on their list. I, personally, was wondering what was typical protocol. Do you go by yourself? Do you bring your groom? Do you take your mom or your maid of honor?

wedding registry items and tips
I interviewed and surveyed recently married couples, as well as couples that have been married for decades. They gave me an abundance of advice on the dos and don’ts of registering.

  • Register for pieces in neutral colors
Opt away from the turquoise bath rug, avocado green lamp, and hot pink appliances. You don’t know if your style will change in the future, and having neutral colored pieces allows for a more cohesive household. This way you can choose pieces that can be transplanted in or taken out for different seasons, and you aren’t stuck with mismatched pieces.

wedding registry items and tips

  • Include your groom
Start your marriage with the mindset that you are in this together, that means you should start with the registry process. If you want his help around the house and in the kitchen, let him have say on your wedding gifts. Things like knife sets, grilling equipment, tools, and utility pieces are things that I definitely needed his input on. After all, this wedding is for the both of you, so presents should be applicable for both of you.

wedding registry items and tips

  • Go for quality not quantity
When shopping on a college budget, most choose the most price efficient option. Yet, when registering, your friends and family want to provide you with the best option out there. This will ensure that you are ready for married life, and that you won’t need to replace your pieces in the future. They are investing in you so that you won’t need to buy these things for yourself down the road.
  • Utilize online registry
Most major department stores offer an online registry. I would recommend setting this up before arriving at the store to help the process along. I also found it very helpful for updating our registry by adding or subtracting items. Online registries also offer the fantastic feature of reviews. You can see how others rate products.
  • Register at local stores in your hometown for bridal showers
This helps out friends and family who do not live near a major city or do not want to pay shipping and handling. Utilize your local shops. A lot of times these boutiques offer the best quality of everything so you really can’t go wrong. Plus, they have more personality and provide a more unique gift that the whole nation won’t have.
  • Consider your wants and needs for years to come
Will you really want the vacuum with the Hello Kitty all over it in a couple of years? Do you really need a blender and a food processor? Keep in mind the size and storage of your living situation. If you are in an apartment now, will you be living in a large house later on where you will have more room?  This includes steering clear of trends that will not be in style for years to come.
  • You will need multiples for some pieces
Sets of silverware, bath towels, measuring cups, plates, and bed sheets. You will need more than just one set, even if it is just the two of you. If you plan on entertaining others a lot, consider purchasing even more.

wedding registry items and tips

  • Compromise on major pieces with your groom
To resolve major discussions in the aisles of Target before they begin, agree on a style of glassware, dinnerware, bedding,  appliances and color of towels. Believe me, you will thank me later. And while we’re on this topic, make sure to keep your blood sugar up the whole day by taking snack breaks throughout the day. No one likes to make decisions with someone who is hangry (so hungry that you become angry).

wedding registry items and tips

  • Do your research on the big items, and register for these first
Like I said before, reviews are very important for finding what the best quality pieces are. This is ideal for technology and appliances like vacuums, grills, mixers, blenders, as well as pots and pans to find out how well they hold up through out the years to avoid having to replace these big ticket items.

wedding registry items and tips

  • Choose items in multiple price points
This is to respect all of your wedding guests. Family members and close friends might go in on a bigger item and split the price, but not everyone wants to spend a fortune on your wedding gift. After all, many people go to a lot of weddings in a small time span. So in respect to everyone’s budgets, include pieces in every price range.  And a note to those buying gifts for the happy couple: even if it seems boring (like buying wooden spoons or a soap dispenser), the bride and groom will appreciate it. No matter what the price tag was.

wedding registry items and tips

The best way to find what you will utilize the most is by talking to real life couples themselves. Yes, the sales associates at stores are very helpful, but they might not actually own the products. My fiancé and I were approached by a couple in the store who kindly told us their favorite brand of sheets, and actually led us to them. They were married the previous year, and were picking up a second set because they loved them so much. Memories and referrals like this are the most helpful because they guarantee a sense of quality and comfort.

Wedding Day Emergency Kit

Your big day is finally here. All of the planning has come down to this, what could go wrong? Well hopefully nothing, but just in case here are a few things to stack away in a “please do not have to use me bag.”

Fashion Emergency Kit. These are so easy to find. Every time I’m in my local Walmart, craft store and even sometimes Forever 21, I see this kit and think about buying it. It has a solution to most fashion related/ wardrobe malfunctions you can think of. (Image Credit)

A Camera. Odds are you or someone in your bridal party has a nice camera. You want to document this day in pictures and videos. Yes, you most likely hired someone to do this, but things happen. The photographer could get sick, stuck in traffic, or even double book and not be able to make it. Pack a camera :)  (Image Credit)

An Umbrella. Rain is supposed to mean good luck on your wedding day… but for most brides it means the fear of messed up hair and makeup. Pack an umbrella to reassure that you stay in tip-top shape. Plus you may get some great pictures from it!  (Image Credit)

5 Places to Propose in Boston

When I think of Boston, I think of Fenway Park or cold weather, but after some research, I was quickly intrigued. Boston is home to much of our country’s history and is one of the oldest cities in the United States. Whether you’re a current resident or planning a trip with your significant other, Boston is a gorgeous, historical town with lots of romantic places to get down on one knee.

Here are some locations to think about:

    • Boston Public Library at Copley Square
With gorgeous architecture, the Boston Public Library is a jaw-dropper. The building combined is 930,000 of pure gorgeousness, but my favorite would have to be the Reading Room in the McKim Building. And if you even want, this was voted one of the most unique wedding venues in Boston!
    • Museum of Science
Say your “under the stars” plan fails because it decides to snow storm. Well, the Museum of Science has got you covered (quite literally). Even though that is just one room, the museum has over 700 interactive exhibits that you could be a part of. Also, you could go outside and do it right on the bank of the Charles River. How stunning?!
    • Fenway Park
Sports fan? Homerun! How perfect would it be to propose at the famous Fenway Park? This would be the most perfect spot for the sports fan couples! The team only allows 1 proposal per game, which happens at the end of the 5th inning, so make sure to book in advance. Fun fact: There are about 64 proposals at Fenway Park EVERY year.
Best places to propose in Boston
    • Freedom Trail
I have always been a sucker for history, so why not take a stroll on the Freedom Trail and end at Bunker Hill. You’ll get to see 16 different historical sites on the way, and why not give The Yes Girls a call to have a complete set up waiting for you when you arrive!
Best places to propose in Boston
    • Faneuil Hall
Now what a more gorgeous building to have in the backdrop of your proposal? This building is over 250 years old and is absolutely incredible. Located near the waterfront and sitting in the middle of Government’s Center, it’s a crowd pleaser, for sure.

Friday “Rocks”! featuring Harry Winston

I hope everyone had the most romantic Valentine’s Day… I’m sure there were some marriage proposals taking place, which is so exciting! So let’s continue the spirit with some beautiful engagement rings from Harry Winston! I LOVE these engagement rings… so classic and timeless!

“The gift of a diamond engagement ring has long-served as a symbol of dedication and love.  Mr. Winston always believed that such sentiments should be captured and commemorated with something as precious and beautiful as a diamond, and worked with his designers and craftsmen to fashion the most exceptional engagement rings.”

Classic Winston, Pear-Shaped Engagement Ring with Tapered Baguette Side Stones

A  pear-shaped diamond, given prominence by two tapered baguette side stones in a delicate platinum setting. The Classic Winston setting embodies Harry Winston’s timeless elegance and signature style. The delicate details of the refined design epitomize the Winston legacy of unsurpassable craftsmanship.

Belle by Harry Winston, Round Brilliant Diamond Micropavé Engagement Ring

A round brilliant diamond center stone, accented by a geometric bezel frame, set on an elegant micropavé band. Inspired by the origin of the House’s most timeless tradition, Belle by Harry Winston pays tribute to our founder’s innate instinct to decipher what made good diamonds great. Throughout the early 1920s Mr. Winston established his name by purchasing some of the most prominent American jewelry estates of the time. Named in homage to the purchase that started it all, the estate of Arabella “Belle” Huntington, the collection echoes the antique charm of the time, while also ensuring the grace and brilliance synonymous with the Harry Winston name.

The One, Oval-Shaped Diamond Micropavé Engagement Ring

An oval-shaped diamond center stone, framed by micropavé diamonds, set on a micropavé band. The timeless glamour of the micropavé setting has quickly become an iconic Harry Winston style. Set in a delicate, feminine design, each ring is meticulously hand-crafted, to highlight the diamond’s graceful beauty.

Classic Winston, Radiant Yellow Diamond Ring

A radiant-cut fancy yellow diamond, 8.08 carats, set as a ring with trilliant diamond side stones weighing a total of approximately 9.48 carats, set in platinum and 18K yellow gold.

First things to do After Getting Engaged

Your very own prince charming got down on one knee and popped that very special question that was the easiest “yes” you’ve ever exclaimed… now what?

After the initial tears, jumps, dances, smiles and laughs. You’re boyfriend has now become you’re fiancé. You cannot wait to say it, write it, and start making all of your Pinterest boards a reality, but first there are a few things you need to do.

tips for the day after the proposal

  1. Whip out your phones and let all of your family members and close friends know. After you think you’ve called/ texted/face-timed and emailed them… go through your contacts a second time and make sure that no one was missed, especially before posting your engagement to social media; nothings worse than hearing about your good friends proposal on a computer screen before you hear it from them.
  2. Get your ring insured/ appraised. Yes, I know not the most glamorous thing to think about doing, but… so important! After the surprises wears off and a ring on your finger finally feels like reality… life can happen. The beautiful rock that you never want to think about losing, can get lost, so it is important to take the steps, just in case that happens.
  3. Start Saving… Weddings are expensive, first make a budget and decide the main factors/ must have’s of your wedding. After that, plan to save a set amount a week even if that means saying goodbye to the three iced lattes a day you just “have “ to have.

tips for the day after the proposal
Most importantly… enjoy this special time together, with wedding planning right around the corner you’re lives may not be as simple as they are in the moment. Have fun; take lots of pictures and congratulations… to you and your new fiancé.

Love Story: Nika Diwa

Happy Valentine’s Day!  In honor of our favorite holiday, I am so excited to announce our new series- Love Story- featuring our favorite bloggers’ and influencers’ proposal stories.  Today, we have our very first guest blogger, Nika of Diwa Dollhouse (www.diwadollhouse.com).  Nika’s super cute style is obvious as soon as you visit her blog and social media, but upon further browsing, you’ll see her fabulous wedding pictures (her dress is to die for!)  and cutesy images of her and her now husband.  It’s obvious that they are head over heels, so we just had to hear their love story from the beginning!  Here is Nika on her love story:

How do I begin to write about this healing, restoring, crazy, silly, forever, unconditional kind of love that has become the second most precious GIFT in my life besides God Himself?

Emeka Joseph Ihedigbo came into my life during the calm after what had been the most catastrophic storm. Our very first interaction was bridged by a very special verse.

“I therefore urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient; bearing with one another in love.”

-Ephesians 4:1-2

From that moment and countless moments into present day, while we have had our share of stumbling and turmoil, I am in constant awe of the walking example this man is to me and those lucky enough to know him. Emeka IShumility, gentleness, patience…bearing in and through even the darkest shadows of my past with oceanlike love. Most people, even up close, cannot fathom the struggles from my past and the scars bearing witness. No one had bothered to look under the surface of my very fragile exterior… until he came along. I cannot sufficiently describe to you the healing power that diminishes all the lies when someone is bold enough, strong enough to take up those battles with you – scars and all – to find and see you for yourself and nothing more, nothing less.

“To be loved but not known is comforting but superficial. To be known and not loved is our greatest fear. But to be fully known and truly loved is, well, a lot like being loved by God. It is what we need more than anything. It liberates us from pretense, humbles us out of our self-righteousness, and fortifies us for any difficulty life can throw at us.” -Tim Keller

The rest is history. I have witnessed Emeka pursue my family; melting my parents with a genuine nature and a heart of humility, and cherishing my baby sister as his own, patiently pouring out all he had to slowly gain her trust. I have witnessed Emeka serve my friends asking for nothing in return; from cooking a four course meal and insisting he also wash all the dishes, to sitting with someone in the middle of grief for as long as it takes.

“And I will know you… because when you speak I will be reminded of Solomon’s wisdom,

Your ability to lead will remind me of Moses,

Your faith will remind me of Abraham,

Your confidence in God’s Word will remind me of Daniel,

Your inspiration will remind me of Paul,

Your heart for God will remind me of David,

Your attention to detail will remind me of Noah,

Your integrity will remind me of Joseph,

And your ability to abandon your own will, will remind me of the disciples,

But your ability to love selflessly & unconditionally will remind me of Christ.

But I won’t need to identify you by any special Matthews or any special Marks,

Cause His word will be tatted all over your heart.” -Janette Mcghee

I’ve never had a prouder moment than saying yes to being Emeka’s future wife. The honor of being his partner, strong helper, and best friend is grace beyond what I deserve in and of itself. Our engagement pictures are so incredibly precious to me because while leading up to the photoshoot we were giddy with anticipation, the moment we arrived, time stopped just for us. Just an empty, stunning Central Park and the man who blew my best dream out of the water.

He was so worth the wait.

“I have found the one whom my soul loves.”

-Song of Solomon 3:4

PROPSAL: https://youtu.be/cDktu8KMmyk

*We made a video! :)

FAVORITE PART OF THE WEDDING PLANNING PROCESS: My favorite part is definitely watching our families and friends come together to celebrate. I loved watching everyone come together in the name of LOVE!

-Nika Diwa, Diwa Dollhouse
