Dallas Rosewood Mansion Marriage Proposal

On Valentine’s Day this year we were able to pull off one beautiful surprise marriage proposal for Xe and Xin! Dallas’ Rosewood Mansion on Turtle Creek was the most perfect backdrop, and I for one loved all their options for small private dining rooms. Xin came to us knowing exactly what he wanted to do for his proposal. There were over 300 red roses used to bring his idea to live! After she said yes, Xin and Xi enjoyed a private dinner with their best friend.

College Romance

Our post today is by Charlotte Sassman of Texas A&M University (whoop!). Charlotte is our social media intern and very passionate about wedding planning. We are so honored to have her on our team this year and can’t wait to watch her bloom as her years as a student come to an end!

With college football coming to an end, you might be interested in taking your loved one to one last game or to take a nostalgic walk around a campus. Maybe even score a touchdown by incorporating your favorite school or alma maters traditions to ask a very special question! Whether these memories of college are fresh or are more than a few years old, your campus is a great place to pop the question! Heres a couple of ideas for using your campus that are sure to impress!

The Place Where You Met

It truly is hard to make a place as special as the location that you first met. Leave a note for them to “meet you where it all began” and decorate the area with candles and flowers with music swaying in the background. Set the perfect tone to bring back the excitement and memories that have built up over the years from that one encounter. (Image below from Alexandra Wren Photography)

A Meaningful, or Beautiful, Spot on Campus

Many college campuses have places that are special to the college for a variety of reasons. At Texas A&M University, for example, there is a tree on campus known as the Century Tree that holds the tradition for campus engagements. It is said if you walk under it at the same time as someone, you are going to spend the rest of your life together; however, if you walk under it alone, you are set to spend life in solitude. This superstition and the beauty of The Century Tree make it a popular proposal spot for current and former students. Another example is the sweetheart circle at Georgia State University. It is said that if you walk around the circle three times with your sweetheart, you are to be married. These are some of the many, but look into your campus favorite as a backdrop for a meaningful proposal! (Images below from JP Beato III and Advantage Bullock)

Student Union or Dining Hall

Take your sweetheart to the place where you shared a countless number of meals. You could even arrange for the kitchen to make her favorite meal and serve it on a tray with the the ring that’ll change everything! Arrange for your college friends to show up after you propose and join you for dessert.

Sporting Event

If you and your sweetheart share a love of sports, why not propose to your partner at a home game for the team that you spent at least four years pulling for? You could even display your proposal message on the scoreboard! Make sure that this is something she would be comfortable with first! Check out The YES Girls blog post a couple of weeks ago for more tips for this one!

Scottsdale Civic Center Library Marriage Proposal

arizona indoor wedding proposal

First of all, a big ole congratulations goes out to our most recently engaged couple – David and Kristina! These two love birds went on their first date to the Scottsdale Civic Library in Arizona and so it was only appropriate for their love story’s next chapter to start there as well. We created a ruse to get Kristina to the library by sending her mom fake tickets to a reading by Brad Meltzer (Kristina’s favorite author). Then when they arrived our Yes Girl (posed as a library staff) kindly took their tickets and gave them a copy of the book that was part of the fake reading, History Decoded. Inside the book was a bookmark that instructed Kristina to go on a little scavenger hunt around the library. Along the way she found books that have different meanings in their relationship and a white tulip (her favorite flower)! The scavenger hunt ended in one of the meeting rooms in the library where David was awaiting his future bride.

David had created a personalized love story that we had bound into a real book – the last page of the book was the question that every girl dreams of hearing!

PS- if you’re wondering what that lovely bright yellow picture is on the wall, it’s another personalized detail to this incredible proposal! Kristina LOVES Post-It Notes (the smell, the texture, the colors, all of it) so we created a custom mural of her favorite flower out of her favorite Post-Its!!!

Wedding Wednesday: Brides Tell All

brides from the past tell regrets and recommendations

Today’s bride is Jessie Casteel, from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! Here is what she had to say about her big day, and tips for future brides…

An excuse to talk about my wedding? Sure! Why not? Justin and I were married on December 20, 2014 in the sophisticated, but intimate Lycan Conservatory of Oklahoma City. It was most important to us that our guests were treated to a lavish evening full of thoughtful details; including a three-course dinner, custom coffee station and flowers “to-go” bar. By the end of the night, the only thing left to want was a bottle of happiness to always remember the way that day felt.

RECOMMENDATION:

Hire the perfect vendors.

What is your vision for the perfect ceremony and reception? Find a wedding planner who embodies that style. Do you love lush floral arrangements in one-of-a-kind containers or vases? Find that florist. Bakers, caterers, photographers and stationary artists… These people will interpret your style into tangible goods. Client meetings should be lighthearted and exciting because you will create a unique relationship with each of these companies. Choose wisely.

REGRET:

Pay attention to your details.

Fortunately for me, there’s nothing I completely regret about my big day! There were lessons I learned along the way and my biggest tip to fellow brides is pay attention to your details. Prioritize the most important details for your wedding and begin at the top. It doesn’t have to be traditional, but it has to be you. (Don’t lose sight of that!) If you choose beautiful elements that work together, like ambiance, color and texture, throughout the design process, the result will always be beautiful.

Catering, floral and photography were things I invested heavily in. My experience in the industry fostered a love of floral and stationary, which subsequently, covered every inch of my tables. In order to create a vision, use consist words to describe your style and define what is important. Encourage everyone to get on board with your vision. Blogs and Pinterest are wonderful tools, if you isolate why you love the photograph (i.e. flatware, floral, lighting, setting). The feelings your style evokes will bring life to the event and create a night to remember!

*Side note: To my incredible dream team of wedding vendors, I love you! Gibson Events for curating a thoughtful event, Poppy Lane Design for jaw dropping floral, Abbey Road Catering for mouth-watering food, Amy Cakes for delectable desserts, Hannah Hudson Photography for stunning photographs, Lionheart Prints for elegant stationary plus many more, including: All About Weddings, Chirps and Cheers, Evoke, Innovative Event Solutions, Kahoy Studios, Marianne’s for Special Events and XO Events & Design.*

Popular Movie Love Quotes

Blame it on the post-Valentines day feelings (and maybe even a little post-Oscars week), but one thing that can’t be denied is that love is in the air. Especially on these cold February days, I just want to cuddle up and watch a movie, usually with a Rom-Com being at the top of the list. Often times, these movies understand how I’m feeling better than I do and perfectly capture the feelings that need to be said.

So today we are honoring those gushy loves. You know the lines that are quoted so often that they have become a cliche in our culture! So from old and classic to new and creative, here are some of my favorites:
