A Love’s Masterpiece

One of our past clients is a very talented artist and had yet to paint his girlfriend a painting. Megan always hoped he would paint her something special, so he found the perfect moment to paint her. He decided to take Megan to her favorite park in town. We created hanging lanterns and various decorations for him to hang from “their” tree in the park, which was her favorite spot to picnic and relax together. When Megan walked up, there was a canvas covered with a sheet. He said, “I have something I’ve been working on and I hope you can help me make the finishing touches.” She was not an artist by any means, so at this point she had did not understand how she could help. When she lifted the sheet, the painting was of that exact spot, where she was standing in the park. He explained by her saying “yes,” to his next question his artwork would be complete. Of course, that is when he proposed.  Needless to say, the painting is now hanging in their apartment to remind her of that special day.

What I love about his proposal is not just the sweet idea, but how he left her with a gorgeous keepsake from that incredible moment. There is nothing like a sentimental gift you can keep forever. We love it!

Romantic + Unique Proposal Spots

We love when a gentleman proposes in an unexpected yet brilliantly romantic spot. We don’t mean to knock proposals over a candlelit dinner, but chances are your gal is intelligent and will catch on to obvious locations like a restaurant. Therefore, we put together a list of some past proposal locations from clients that found the perfect spot to propose according to their relationship.

{244EFE5F-1E1F-45D7-BAC7-68DFD43DC09B}

1) This Texan cowboy proposed to his cowgirl after a private horseback ride; they stumbled upon a old barn and he dared her to go inside. When she stepped inside, it was decked out in the most beautiful Christmas/cowgirl setting she could ever imagine. Twinkle lights, sunflowers galore, hurricane candles, Texan themed dinner, and a dance floor where they danced to her favorite song.

2) During a couple’s annual winter trip to Breckenridge, Colorado, he proposed by placing the ring on a snowman’s stick hands (they built it together as a tradition). When she came home, a candle lit path led her to the snowman, a table set with crystal toasting flutes, champagne and her man in the middle of a winter wonderland.

3) One gentleman proposed to his fiancée during a private dance lesson. Her dream was to own her own dance studio, and as a sweet boyfriend, he occasionally took dance lessons with her.  The instructor choreographed a move where she spun away from him, giving him the opportunity to get down on one knee.

4) This guy played into his sweetheart’s helpless romantic side. He proposed on the Empire State Building, but it wasn’t just like any other proposal up there.  He left his fiancée a backpack to find, exactly like the one from her favorite movie “Sleepless in Seattle.” It even had the teddy bear sticking out of the top, which had her engagement ring on its paw!

5) One gentleman proposed in the middle of the gorgeous Dallas gardens after he handed her a storybook.  She was obsessed with Disney fairy tales and movies, so he found an old Disney book and re-wrote the pages to share the story of their relationship. Sitting in the garden and reading the storybook, allowed her to truly feel as if she was in the middle of a fairy tale.

These are just a few proposals we loved helping with, and witnessing just how perfect the locations were for each couple. Finding a unique, romantic spot to propose is not impossible, it just takes some thought. Start brainstorming gentlemen.

Future Love Letter

This couple has big dreams and a bright future together.  After learning about Brian and Katie it only seemed suitable to incorporate their hopes and dreams for their future since it means so much to Katie. First off, they want to move to Kansas City. A little about Katie, she is very practical, appreciates simple things in life, loves wine, daisies, baseball, and most of all adores her new fiancé very much. Since she wanted the proposal to be private, he set up a personal and original setting within the parameters his own backyard.

love_letter1233610099 love-letter-opener-favor-7

The idea was to create an experience of what their life would look like together as a married couple. When she arrived, she was greeted by a wooden sign that said, “Welcome to  Kansas City.” She stepped into the backyard and was in complete awe;  she was surrounded by things she loves, items that reflected their favorite things they do together, and things that signify their future dreams together.  Brian began reading Katie a letter but it was unlike most letters. He wrote it as if him and Katie were 60 years old, living in Kansas City together recollecting many memories they shared over the past 60 years.  As he read the letter, he pointed out the different items around the room that reflected past memories together, and many of which have yet to come.  When he finished reading his love letter from the future, in the middle of all their dreams, he asked Katie to be his wife. Simple yet unforgettable.

Congrats to Brian and Katie! May all your desires and dreams for your future together come true.

We Say “Yes” Wednesdays

i_love_yes

It’s week two of the Yes Girls Say “Yes,” Do you? Here are our picks for the week. Guys these are great gift ideas/romantic ideas to give your gal!

1. Since it has been a bachelor frenzy week, I started to research what old Bachelors and Bachelorettes are up to! I stumbled upon Meredith Phillips who after her role as Bachelorette went to culinary school and now has a cooking book titled, “The Date Night Cookbook: 25 Easy to Cook Menus for the Busy Couple.” This would be such a great gift for a bridal shower, or men for you to give to your lady as an activity you want to start doing together! Most women won’t refuse help in the kitchen!

2. As I start to plan for all the upcoming wedding and bachelorette weekend getaways, I was thinking how I needed a good size duffle bag. While on tweet deck today I noticed that Jessica Simpson has come out with a new luggage line. It is so cute, and men it would be another amazing gift to give. You can even put a little note inside that says a destination you are planning on taking her in the future! This one was my favorite!

3. My third and final yes are these great decals that you can place on wine glasses! I found them on etsy. The shop name is decalmonograms! They are only $4.50 and they will custom make your initials, and they have many different colors to pick from. Men, this would be such a thoughtful surprise for your wife to come home to her favorite bottle of wine and two wine glasses with hers and your initials on it! Ladies, these would be super cute to give your bridesmaids, parents, or future in-laws as a thank you present for the wedding! If you or they don’t drink wine, no worries, you can put the personalized decals on a really pretty frame!

The Perfect Fit

We get quite a few questions from males and females regarding how to find the perfect ring; today we are addressing some of their concerns.  Spending thousands on an engagement ring isn’t easy.  These are common concerns we hear: I want to keep it a surprise but what if it isn’t the ring she wants? Can I exchange it? Can I really afford that ring?  Who does the appraisal?

We put together a few helpful questions to present your jeweler when making this life changing purchase.  Some may seem obvious but you would be surprised how many forget to ask.

1.  What is the jewelers exchange/return policy? It is good to have a back-up plan just in case your fiancée (or you) wants to exchange her ring.

2.  Ask to view your diamond under their microscope, so you can see any and all blemishes. This will help you compare and understand the Clarity, one of the 4 C’s, of the diamond so you make the best decision.

3.  Does the jeweler offer custom ring designs if you already have your diamond?  Some jewelers, such as Tiffany & Co., have brilliant, quality diamonds but do not offer any customization of rings. Therefore, if you already have the diamond it’s usually best to find family owned jewelry stores who specialize in custom settings.

4. What are you options for payment? Every store has a different payment policy so do not assume, ask.

5. Who does the appraisal? Many jewelers require you go through them for the appraisal. Therefore, if you want to go elsewhere, double check their policy. After you get your appraisal, make sure you get the ring insured as soon as possible.

I hope this makes ring shopping a little less stressful and a little more enjoyable. These are just a few items to address.  Feel free to email us or comment below if you have a good question/suggestion for our soon-to-be engaged couples. Have fun finding that perfect fit!

Art of Love

Caleb was extremly nervous about his proposal. All of Amy’s friends were engaged or married and she was expecting something totally memorable.  We wanted to take the pressure off him and create the best proposal possible for Amy and Caleb. This idea incorporates his gift for graphic design, and her love for art, photography and gardening.

The Huntington Library and Gardens in Los Angeles is remarkable, so we immediately knew it was the perfect place for his proposal to all go down.  He got her best friend involved which was major points to Amy.  Her friend asked Amy to visit the Huntington Gardens with her one Friday. Little did she know Caleb would be awaiting her arrival. Just imagine walking through these breathtaking gardens, on your way to getting engaged…

Caleb set up five easels with beautiful, enlarged photos of him and Amy throughout the gardens. Each easel was adorned with gardenias and peonies, which of course are Amy’s favorite.  Since Caleb is a graphic designer, he transformed the photos into amazing pieces of artwork. As she passed each easel, one word (that described Amy) was written on each photograph. The photos eventually led her to Caleb who was waiting, in her favorite garden, next to the final art piece he created that completely captivated him and Amy’s relationship.  After she realized what was happening, Caleb was already on his knee with a little blue box. Needless to say, that art piece is now hanging in their new home. Simply amazing!

If you are currently looking at wedding venues or places to visit for an anniversary, The Huntington Gardens does allow events and the property is gorgeous. It’s definitely worth checking out.

We Say “Yes” Wednesdays

i_love_yes

The girls and I talked and we decided we wanted to start doing a weekly blog post with things we say “yes” to, and hope you do too! It could be anything from a new gadget, romantic gift idea, inspiring stories, intriguing websites/vendors and anything we all say “yes” to that you should buy and/or be a apart of! This week, and lately I have been overwhelmed by the needs in America and around the world. So many people are suffering and going through such hard times.  I decided to share ways we can all give back when it comes to planning a wedding or being a wedding planner!

1. While getting lost in twitter world I found this website Wish Upon A Wedding Founder Liz Guthrie created this organization in January 2010. It helps couples who one and or both of them are struggling with a terminal illness. Wedding professionals can sign up in a chapter according to your area to offer their services to a couples in need. If you are interested in starting a chapter please email Liz at cwo@wishuponawedding.org. Thank you Liz for creating an idea that we can all easily give to!

2. My roommate is one of those people that has creativity written on her forehead. Check out her blog! She had the girls in our bible study and me all send her our “passion” or “gifts” we think we have in our life. She said she was working on a secret project. She finally let me in on the secret yesterday. She sent us an email to go to Barter Quest, an online website where you sign up and donate your services for someone elses. You create a list with your services and write what value they are worth, then you can swap with someone of the same value! I am down to swap! Anyone else?!

3. My last thing we all say yes to, is a company called Just Hearts This non-profit organization buys and sells jewelry and pottery that is made my woman in Uganda, Nicaragua and Thailand who either were once sold into sex slavery or are trying to provide for their family. All purchases go back to keeping these woman’s jobs secure. We all agree why not buy these for your bridesmaids or for wedding favors! Let’s gift and give back!

Hope you enjoyed. Thanks to Melissa Disston Photography for these beautiful photos of the jewelry. See you all next week!

Proposal Photo Shoot: Lauren + Paul

We shared Lauren and Paul’s engagement story yesterday and these photos make it all come to life. You can just feel the love between these two and the sun couldn’t be brighter that day! Simply beautiful. Note the “little blue box” in the black and white photo. I just love that!

Want to see more? Visit Julie Hanna Photography.  Gentlemen, it is definitely worth capturing the proposal on camera. Even if you can’t afford a professional photographer, ask a friend to hide in the bushes. Of course, the upside to a professional is that they look like beautiful pieces of artwork!
