Who throws the engagement party?

Traditionally, the bride’s parents throw the couple’s engagement party. If the couples parents have not met, this is an appropriate and fun setting. However, just as weddings now-a-days, usually anything goes. If the groom’s parents, your best friend, or your aunt want to celebrate and treat you to an engagement party, then we say embrace it and have fun!  Couples can certainly host their own engagement party however, keep in mind those are expenses a couple could put towards their wedding instead.

Where to have an engagement party?

The possibilities are endless. Restaurants, backyards, the beach, country clubs, wineries, a church, etc. It really depends on the vibe you want to convey. We recommend incorporating a theme that is unlike the style of the couple’s wedding. Even if the wedding is a black tie affair, feel free to throw a casual, backyard bbq. You do not want the engagement party to upstage the wedding.

When to throw an engagement party?

Engagement parties typically take place within a few months of the marriage proposal, however this is flexible depending on the length of their engagement. The most important thing is that the party takes place closer to the proposal than the wedding.

How to decorate for an engagement party?

The easiest way to create a party is to start with a theme. Decorate the space with cool fabrics, pattern table clothes, chairs, floral arrangements, mirrors, frames, finger foods, and the couple’s engagement photos. Here are a few themes to brainstorm while you’re pondering that perfect engagement party style: backyard bbq, wine tasting excursion, summer nights on the beach, nostalgic theme (recreating where/how the couple met), country garden at home, cocktail party at hotel, and if you really want to capture that “eternal love” momentum Twilight is a modern day theme.
