Planning a proposal over the holidays? Travel and juggling family schedules can be a job itself so if you plan to propose during this time it’s best if you have a game plan versus winging it. Seriously.
Are you planning to book a photographer or a private venue for your wedding proposal set up? To help simplify the chaos we have a list of the top questions you’ll want to ask vendors before your engagement day to ensure everyone is on the same page before, during, and after the proposal!
5 questions to ask vendors helping you with your marriage proposal set up.
1. PHOTOGRAPHER: How many high resolution digital photos will I receive?
Some photographers will send the entire proposal shoot while others will edit their favorite 20-30 photos from the proposal. Ask upfront so you know what you’ll be receiving beyond the 1-2 hours of shooting time.
2. VENUE: Is the set up/clean up time included in rented hours?
Some venues will allow additional time for set up while other include your rented hours as part of the set up and clean up times. For example: If you rent the private space for 2 hours you’ll have to allot 30 minutes for set up, 30 minutes for clean up and 1 hour for the actual event. If you set up or clean up outside those hours they will most likely charge an overtime fee.
3. PHOTOGRAPHER: Where is the best place for me to stand to ensure the best angle and lighting?
Discuss if you should stand on the left or right side when you get down on one knee but the most ideal shot is the straight profile photo so it captures both your smile and her surprise reaction.

4. DAY OF COORDINATOR: What time will the set up begin and do all the vendors have the same timeline to work off of?
If you hire a proposal planner than this should be handled for you (at least The Yes Girls handle all of this) but if you are coordinating all your vendors and have a friend setting up the proposal then make sure all the people involved (venue, photographer, set up person, etc) have the same written out timeline so everyone is on the same page and has contact info for one another.
5. VENUE: If proposing outdoors, what’s the venue’s rain/snow back up option?
I would also ask if there is an additional fee for the indoor or plan b option to make sure you are aware of all costs beforehand.
